After a brief decline in health, Yoshifumi passed away in his sleep at home at the grand age of 96.
Predeceased by his gracious wife Masa, and parents Ryotaro and Waye Kitaura, of Japan, and brother Raymond Kunio Kitaura and his wife Toshie.
Born in Raymond, Alberta and raised in Japan, he returned to Canada in the early 1950’s, then settled in Toronto with Masa in 1958 to raise a family.
Employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway for 37 years, he also enjoyed drawing and painting, reading, and cheering on the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs on TV. He was an avid gardener, often entering prize-winning flowers into garden shows. He spent countless hours tending his backyard garden and, in later years, caring for his many plants in his sunroom. He was also a loyal member of the Toronto Buddhist Church.
Yoshifumi is survived by his sisters Tomiko, Mitsue, Fujie, Wakako of Japan and children Edward Kitaura (Mary Lynn) and Frances Xu (David), grandchildren Hana, James, Leah and Manley. He will be greatly missed by all of his family, friends and coworkers.
There will be a funeral service held Saturday, September 21 at Elgin Mills Cemetery.
Koden are gratefully declined.
