In memory of

Ying Yang

April 8, 1929 -  April 8, 2019

On Monday, April 8 2019, Ying Yang passed away peacefully on her 90th Birthday. She is the wife of the beloved late husband Yik On Yang, loving mother to Philip, Oliver and Ivan, caring sister to 8 siblings and devoted grandmother to Stephanie, Adrienne, Howard, Steven, Rachelle and Joshua. Ying was born in Canton, China and enjoyed a full life of learning and of nurturing her family. She attended university at a time when it was unusual for a woman to do so. There she met her partner in life whom she worked and travelled with from Hong Kong to Canada.
Ying was a self-taught cook, seamstress, gardener and avid crafter. She enjoyed cooking for extended family gatherings, she shared indoor and outdoor plants with friends and neighbours, she made vest and blankets for family and she enjoyed crafting with her grandchildren. She was meticulous in looking after the home and business finances and taught her sons the importance of a good education and the value of money. Later in life, she attended beading and Chinese herbal medicine classes. She created beaded characters and enjoyed reading her newspaper from front to back thoroughly, always keeping articles about nutrition, Chinese medicine and natural remedies.
Please join the family in saying goodbye to Ying at her visitation on Thursday, April 18 at 10 to 11 a.m., Pine Hill Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough, Ontario. A Memorial Service and interment will directly follow.
Flowers can be sent to the funeral centre or donations in memory of Ying may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada https://www.kidney.ca/ways-to-donateor the Scarborough Hospital Foundation – Birchmount site: Save the Grace https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-scarborough-hospital-foundation/.
