With great sorrow we announce that HERBERT (YIK LEUNG) LAI passed away peacefully on Oct. 1, 2022, after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 81.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, he grew up with his sister Selina while his father worked in the U.S. He graduated from Far East Flying Training School; and worked briefly at the Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company. In 1966, he immigrated to Toronto, where he met Helen, his beloved wife of 53 years. He loved airplanes and worked at McDonnell Douglas (later Boeing) until his retirement.

He loved fishing, hiking, and traveling the globe. He had a passion for adventure, and would drive long distances for family vacations. In his spare time, he would work on projects around the house and in the garage.

He loved to shop, and always dressed impeccably.

He is survived by his wife Helen, children Hugo (Lucia) and Hayley. Proud and adoring grandpa to Joshua.

Visitation will be on Saturday October 15, 2022 at 9 am EDT followed with a Funeral Service at 10 am at Meadowvale Funeral Centre. The funeral will also be streamed. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or Mississauga Chinese Baptist Church mission fund.
