In memory of

Yee Wan Lee 李梅綺雲夫人

July 23, 1940 -  October 24, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Yee Wan Lee on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the age of 83. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy. Predeceased by her husband, Kai How, her siblings, Mel Chuck-Wang Moy (Liza Pui Yin), and Chuck Hong Moy. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her surviving sibling – Zhuo Zuo (Zi Juan) as well as by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

Yee Wan immigrated to Canada in the mid-1960s and became a widow a couple of years later. Although she didn’t speak English, she displayed enormous resilience, resourcefulness, and great inner strength in creating a life filled with wonderful friends for herself and her daughter. She was an incredibly loving mother and Nancy’s biggest cheerleader and protector.

She showed her love for her friends and family by inviting people over for meals and taking them under her wing. She loved to feed people and was such a great cook that she was in high demand for potlucks and special occasions – especially for her famous vermicelli dish. She was kind-hearted and would always ask how everyone was doing. Thoughtful and quick witted, her humour would unexpectedly make an appearance with candid and observant comments accompanied by frequent punch lines, making those around her laugh out loud.

Her family and friends will deeply miss her wisdom, sense of humour and nurturing spirit.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation (https://www.mghf.ca/) in recognition of their care of Yee Wan.

Dearest Nancy;
My deepest condolences to you on the passing of your mother. I never got the chance to meet her, and wish I had gotten to. I wish for you peace and calm as you come to terms with this loss and I pray that you will find comfort in your memories of her and the love that you shared together. I pray for her and know that she is at peace and I pray also for you and that with each day and shared memory you will be comforted knowing she is at rest and watching over you from above.

Nancy,

Generous and caring are two words that immediately come to my mind when I think of your mom – added to that is the deep love I can see she has for you. It is this love I know that will give you courage and strength at this time. My deepest sympathy to you and your family and I hope your sorrow will lighten with time as you remember the fun and the good.
