In Memorial of Fung Yee May

It is with great sadness that the family of Fung Yee May (nee Wong) announces her passing on Thursday, July 13, 2023.
Yee May will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ferdinand (Xue), Susanna (Leonard), Marlene (Feric). Proud grandmother to Roxanna (Roger), Newton (Van), Jason and Justin. Dear great-grandmother of Michael, Erin, Samantha, Tyler and Kaitlyn. Yee May was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Chiok Pung in 2011. She is also survived by her 3 younger brothers, along with many nieces, nephews in Canada, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Peru and the US.
Yee May went through many adversities in her youth and young adulthood. She went through the Japanese occupation and depression in the 1940s. She lost her father to the communist regime. She married her husband in 1947 in a village in Canton, China. After the birth of their son, Ferdinand, her husband went back to Peru to continue his business by himself. It was in 1956 she and her son were finally able to join together as a family and in a few years, 2 daughters, Susanna and Marlene were born. Even though Yee May never received any formal education. During her years in Peru, Yee May embraced new experiences and learned to speak Spanish and forged many new connections. Later, she and her family moved to Hong Kong and lived there for 9 years before emigrating to Toronto to join her son and his family. She enjoyed many happy years in Canada. She enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives. She spent many hours entertaining them, playing mahjong, cooking up great feasts and seeing her grandchildren grew up.
Yee May was a person with many passions and interests. Most of all, she loved her family and was proud of them. She was an avid gardener and was well known to friends and neighbours for growing the best bitter and winter melons on the street. She often gave away her fruits of labour to her friends and neighbours. Even during her senior years, she insisted on growing her vegetables in her garden so she can continue sharing her vegetables with others.
Yee May was well-loved by her generosity, kindness and sense of humour. She will be fondly remembered by all her family and friends. She was truly special and will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched.

My deepest condolences to Susanna and your family during this time.
Your mother was a cheerful lady always with a smile on her face. We lived on Major Street when we studied in the same high school. Whenever your mother met me, she always friendly addressed me as Miss Szeto. That is always in my memory.
My love and support will always be here for you.

Oh sorry I did not know until my cousin Marlene informed me. RIP. I trust that my mom is happy to see your mom together in Heaven to chat and eat freely. I have just burnt 3 incents to her and every day at home I will burn the incents to her at tomorrow same as Canadian time on July 22. Do not cry too much like me. 如美姨媽應高興可以回到姨丈身邊及見返在上天的親朋好友。
