In memory of

黄学成 Xue Cheng "Bill" Huang

July 6, 1965 -  October 14, 2023

Xue Cheng “Bill” Huang, 58, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2023 in his home, surrounded by family.

Xue Cheng was born on July 6, 1965 to San Zhen Liu and Hai Yuang Huang in Nantong, China as one of six. His hardworking nature, evident even as a child, afforded him the opportunity to be first of his family to pursue higher education. Xue Cheng went on to earn his Masters in Chemical Engineering from the esteemed East China University of Science & Technology.

After meeting his beloved wife and having their first child, Xue Cheng and family immigrated to Canada in 2001. Xue Cheng considered Canada to be his true home. He returned to university for a second degree, completing his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto, and worked as a Mortgage Specialist at RBC. Despite his introversion, Xue Cheng adored his job and thrived in his role.

Second only to his passion for his work, Xue Cheng was an avid fisherman. As a child, he’d try to catch guppies with makeshift rods in the stream behind his home. His enthusiasm never waned in adulthood, and he’d count down yearly to the day that bass fishing season commenced. He’d brave freezing conditions to go ice fishing in his little portable hut, and return content even if no fish were in sight.

Xue Cheng will be remembered by others for his selflessness and generosity. His priority was his family, and he never hesitated to put them above himself. Yet his kindness extended much further, and he gave himself fully to kin and strangers alike, expecting nothing in return. Even in his final days, Xue Cheng was preoccupied with ensuring that all helpers and service providers received some token of his appreciation for their efforts.

Xue Cheng leaves behind his loving wife Youshu Zhang, daughter Lily Huang, mother San Zhen Liu, and five siblings. He will be missed dearly.

Services will be held at the York Funeral Home on October 20, 2023 beginning with a visitation at 9:30am, followed by a service at 11:00am and private burial at 12:00pm.

I did not know Xue Cheng personally but as a friend of Lily, she spoke fondly of her parents and it was clear she holds them in the highest regard. I wish for peace and comfort for Xue Cheng and the entire Huang family at this very difficult time.

I can't remember how long we have known each other, nor how many times you have helped me and my family. With you gone, I have lost not only a friend but also a big brother. The advice and encouragement you shared with me will always remain in my heart. I wanted to hear your voice again, only to realize that you never left a voice message on WeChat. Because no matter how busy you were, you always made phone calls in person. Bill, we will all miss you. Rest in peace.
