In memory of

黄煥添 Woon Tim "Timmy" Wong

July 11, 1945 -  June 28, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Woon Tim Wong, affectionately known as Timmy, who left us peacefully on June 28, 2025 in Toronto, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 79 years old, just days shy of his 80th birthday.

Born in Pingdi Village, Nanhai District, Foshan, Guangdong, China (中國廣東省佛山市南海平地村), Timmy began life with humble roots. His father had 4 wives as was common in Chinese customs at the time, with a family of 15 sons and 5 daughters. Being born the 11th son, Timmy was nicknamed “十一” or “11” by his family.

At age 11, he moved to Hong Kong to work and attend night school. He ultimately found his calling as an auto mechanic working for Mercedes-Benz. In 1967, he immigrated to Canada to begin a life filled with hard work, generosity and family. He continued working in the automotive industry until he eventually co-founded a successful garage in 1972, S.T. United Motors. Timmy was a skilled and trusted automotive mechanic who was known not just for his craftsmanship, but for his humor, honesty, and the friendships he built with his customers. His initial apprenticeship began a lifelong love of Mercedes-Benz cars, and in the early ‘80s, he rebuilt a 1971 280 SL Roadster. For nearly 40 years, this beloved blue convertible never touched the snow or salt of wintery Canada, only being driven in warm sunny weather and to weekly outdoor tennis games.

In 1968, Timmy met Ita (Lai-On) through mutual friends. They enjoyed spending time together with friends and family, camping, fishing, and skiing. They married in 1974, and together they built a loving home, celebrating over 50 years of marriage. They welcomed their son Brian, followed by their daughter Cindy and spent many busy years pursuing their careers and raising their family. An avid learner, Timmy would often attend night courses to continue upgrading his skills in the automotive trade. In their golden years, they spent time travelling the world, practicing qigong, playing mah jong with friends, and delighting in the life of grandparenting to their grandsons Henry and Louis.

In 2009, Timmy was diagnosed with a Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST), a rare form of stomach cancer. He underwent surgery to remove the tumor and made a successful recovery. For many years, he lived in remission and continued enjoying time spent playing table tennis, horse racing, cheering on Toronto’s sports teams, eating dim sum and spending time at family gatherings.

When the cancer returned, Timmy bravely faced the challenge of another surgery. Despite his courage and the constant care and devotion from Ita, his journey came to an end with him at peace and surrounded by those who loved him most.

Though he is no longer with us, Timmy will be remembered for being, above all, selfless — always putting the needs of others before his own, never asking for recognition and generous without hesitation. He was friendly to all, and a true gentleman. He will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing him.

Timmy is lovingly remembered by Ita, his children Brian and Cindy, son-in-law Kevin, and grandsons Henry and Louis.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 10:00–11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service from 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto — a fitting tribute on what would have been his 80th birthday. A reception will follow at 2:00 p.m.
