In memory of

Wolfgang Karl Walter Zimmer

March 19, 1944 -  April 15, 2017

Zimmer, Wolfgang Karl Walter
It is with the saddest of hearts we announce the passing of Wolf Zimmer. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 15, 2017, with his children at his side, at Rouge Valley Health – Centenary at the age of 73. Loving and devoted husband of Brigitte for 50 years. Cherished dad of Christine de Blois (Craig), and Ron Zimmer (Erin). Proud Opa of Emma, Bobby and Kylie de Blois and Violet Zimmer. Wolf was a much loved son, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and a friend to many. His kind heart, positive energy and wonderful sense of humour will be deeply missed. He leaves us with beautiful memories.

Wolf was the only child of Gertrude and George Zimmer. He grew up in Frankfurt Germany, starting an apprenticeship to become a car mechanic at the age of 14. He came to Canada at the age of 18 and got a job with Volkswagen Canada. He later worked at Agincourt Auto Haus and then at Mercedes Benz until he retired.

Wolf met the love of his life Brigitte, at the age of 19. They had many wonderful experiences together, having two children, 4 grandchildren, living in their home for over 50 years, spending much time at the cottage Wolf built, and travelling together. Wolf and Brigitte loved going on cruises. Wolf was a strong, hardworking man, and an amazing handyman. He loved cooking and gardening. He played soccer as a child all the way into his twenties. Wolf followed in the steps of his father-in-law and became a free mason. He loved his home and taking care of it and in his final years enjoyed time on his sofa in the family room watching news and the cooking channel in front of his fish tank and fireplace. He also enjoyed many sleepless nights watching his favourite shows Suits and White Collar. In addition, he loved playing Clash of Clans, an online video game, with Ron, Craig and Bobby.

Above all else Wolf was a kind-hearted man who always saw the good in others. He made friends easily. He was loving and gentle and had an amazing sense of humour. His pleasure came from making others happy. Wolf was a caring and proud dad. He was the most devoted husband to his wife Brigitte, especially when she was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease at age 50. He was an exceptional caregiver for 22 years, always putting her first. His will to live through his own illness came from wanting to make sure she was cared for. He loved being an Opa and came to many of Bobby’s hockey games and Emma and Kylie’s dance competitions.

Wolf spent five weeks in the Centenary hospital ICU before he passed, displaying his enormous strength and will to get over the many problems that arose, all the while maintaining his sense of humour and love of life. One of his last words were “I’ve made so many friends while I’ve been here”. We wish to extend our greatest thanks to the medical professionals who took such good care of our dad, the nurses and doctors in the ICU, and Wolf’s other doctors and specialists, who gave him more quality time, exceptional care, and kindness that was so very much appreciated.

Wolf was a regular blood donor in his twenties and thirties. During his final 5 weeks, his own life depended on the donations of blood that others so generously made. In Wolf’s honour donations can be made to Canadian Blood Services, or please consider donating blood. Please visit blood.ca to find the clinic nearest you. If Wolf could ask for a final request it would not be for himself, it would be to make sure his wife is well taken care of ( with visits from family) until Wolf and Brigitte are together again.

Family and friends will be welcomed at The Simple Alternative Funeral Centre, 1057 Brock Road, Pickering ( Brock & 401) on Saturday May 06, 2017 from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.

What a beautiful, detailed tribute. I feel like I knew him from reading this, it's written with so much respect, admiration and love. He was clearly a kind, unselfish man who was dearly loved and it was well-deserved. My warmest wishes for your healing over this loss, Christine and family.
Love,

Your dad was an amazing man who loved his family tremendously. I adored him and always felt welcome around him, he was the father I never had. I remember the Sunday mornings when he would bring home the cherry strudel, yummy!! He will always have a special place in my heart.
