In memory of

Wojciech Topperman

April 11, 1937 -  June 23, 2024

Wojciech Topperman (né Wichrzycki) passed peacefully in his sleep in Toronto, on June 23rd 2024. He joins his wife Maria (née Topolska), who was born in Warsaw Poland in 1945 and passed in Toronto in 1995. Wojciech was born in Warsaw Poland in 1937 and spent his early childhood in Afghanistan, where his father was a leading engineer on the Tang-e Gharu road, before returning to Warsaw with his family in 1944. An artist at heart, Wojciech was a proud member of the revolutionary theatre troupe Student Satirical Theatre (STS) whose members became a second family. When he met his wife, it was love at first sight. Together they lived in Baghdad and Paris before becoming political refugees. They then lived in Sweden and finally Canada. While working for the engineering firm NCK in Toronto, Wojciech was honoured to work on iconic landmarks like the CN Tower and the pyramid over the Louvre. He leaves behind his daughters, Caroline Topperman and Noemi Hallett, and their husband’s respectively Pawel Siarkiewicz and Matthew Hallett along with his grandchildren Vedder and Isla. He will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made to St Michael's Hospital palliative care unit, in memory of Mr Wojciech Topperman.

Noemi, Matthew, Vedder , Isla, Caroline and family. Sincere thoughts are wth you at this time of sorrow. We are truly sorry for your loss.”Death leaves a heartache no one can heal love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

We so enjoyed Wojtek ‘s company. He brought a perspective to our family that was valued. Wojtek shared our joy and delight in our beautiful grandchildren Vedder and Isla. You will be missed around the dinner table.
May peace walk with you this day, precious ones.

Dearest Noemi, Dearest Caroline,

Your dad always had so much love, laughter, hugs, humour, warmth and welcoming for me and my family, in good and bad times, I don't know how to really express how much I loved and appreciated him. I wish I had said and shown it more. He was such an amazing man and I am so sorry you, we and the world will have to live without him. His memory will continue to shine brightly in our hearts and minds. I am so sorry I cannot make it to the funeral, I wish I could be there. I will create a little alter here for him, so that I can be with you in spirit. Sending you both and your families love and support in these times and also those to come when your father's absence brings you sadness and pain.

Grief they say is love with no where to go. We often don't get to know when its the last time....our love for our sweet friend has no last time. When we think of Wojtek, it will be of his intelligence, his wit, and his huge heart. He was always great fun, and we'll miss him immensely.

I met Wojtek and his family in 1981 when I arrived in Canada, not knowing that I would stay here for the rest of my life. He and Maria have played an important role in helping me assimilating in the new home country. I also learned from Wojtek that warm hart is more important than all the diplomas.
Good By Wojtek!
Bon courage Caroline and Noemi.
Tomek
