In memory of
羅永熹 Wing Hay Lo
August 28, 1934 -
April 6, 2018
Lo Wing Hay, Henry (羅永熹), 83, of North York, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the North York General Hospital. Born in Kowloon, Hong Kong to Pak Wai and Pui Tsun Lo, he lived most of his life in Hong Kong before emigrating to Canada in the early 1990’s.
Henry was an avid collector, amassing expertise of stamps, coins, pens, clocks, and porcelain. His passion for stamp collecting earned him high regard in the HK philatelic circle, and he was considered one of the experts of his generation. Despite his formidable reputation he remained generous with his knowledge to all new entrants of this hobby and would readily share his expertise when approached. A number of his apprentices went on and set up successful stamp trading businesses, some of those are still active today.
In his younger days Henry enjoyed a wide range of activities that were considered ahead of his time such as motorcycling and fencing, as well as his beloved table tennis which he carried on practicing until recently at the Parkway Racquet & Fitness Club. After his retirement, Henry enjoyed traveling, exploring the four corners of the world and visiting family and friends along the way.
A career civil servant, Henry began his career at the Hong Kong Post Office and then became an Officer at the Resettlement Department (the predecessor of the Housing Department) of Hong Kong, where he remained until he retired from his post as a Senior Housing Manager in 1990.
Henry was extremely loving and proud of his four children, Teresa Lo and her husband Robert McDowell, of Toronto; Maria Lo and her husband Barry Lee, of Hong Kong; Chris Lo and his wife Ling Ling Lo, of London, England; and Vincent Lo and his wife Rachel Skrlac Lo, of Wayne, PA. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Mary Lo; his sister Vera Luk and her husband Nelson Luk, of Markham; as well as his beloved grandchildren, Rachel Hung, Alastair Lee, Sydney Lo, Robyn Lo, Isabella Lo, and William Benjamin Lo, and many nieces, nephews and other friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 19, 2018 starting at 9:00 AM, and the service will be from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Elgin Mills Funeral Visitation Centre, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. Following the service, guests are invited to join the family for a lunch reception at the Golden Court Abalone Restaurant, 270 West Beaver Creek Rd, Richmond Hill, L4B 3Y9.
