William Robert (Bob) Crampton
CRAMPTON, William Robert - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Robert (Bob) Crampton on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the age of 77.
Bob was a loving husband to Joan (nee Glynn) for more than 57 years; a devoted father to Paul (Rita), Gwen, Sandy, Bob, Ruth (Kevin), Pat (George) and Becky (Joe); and cherished grandfather of sixteen. He will be deeply missed by his many friends and family members at home and abroad.
Bob was the eldest of eleven and was born in Dublin, Ireland. He immigrated to Toronto in 1957 and proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces for three years and the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force for 33 years. He rose to the rank of Staff Inspector and headed up the Hold Up Squad and Fraud Squad along with other prominent positions. He was a pioneer in the area of gun control and his research and advocacy contributed to stronger firearms legislation being passed in Canada. Bob's strength and sense of humour gained him the name "Crusher". He was well known for his eloquent turn of phrase (Crusherisms) among metro crime reporters and often made the evening news and papers. He was a proud member of the Toronto Police Military Veterans Association and enjoyed participating in Remembrance Day and other ceremonial parades. Bob was known for his integrity, strength, generosity, love of family and friends and his lifelong carpentry hobby.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life at the Mount Pleasant Visitation Centre and Yorkminster Park Baptist Church (see full details below).
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation (link under donations button below).
