William (“Bill") Pupeza, passed away peacefully in his 102nd year, at his home at the Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence in Toronto, Ontario.

Bill was born in Rosa, Manitoba on September 15, 1919. He was the middle child of 5 children born to Anna and John Pupeza, who were Ukrainian settlers that immigrated to Canada at the turn of the century. Bill grew up in rural Manitoba where he and his family farmed the land that his parents established the family homestead on. Bill remained on the farm until being drafted into WWII in the 100th. C.A. (B) T.C.-Royal Canadian Artillery and later moved to Toronto where he worked in the autobody field.

Throughout his life, Bill was an avid outdoorsman, who often travelled to Northern Ontario to fish, hunt and camp. He also had a lifelong love of baseball. Into his 30’s, he played for Rosa in the Roseau River Valley Baseball League and was a huge Blue Jays fan.

Our beloved “Uncle Bill” was as they say, “the salt of the earth”. He embodied the very best values of strength in character, dependability, strong family ties and integrity and a strong support to his extended family. We were thrilled to be able to celebrate the milestone of his 100th. birthday with his beloved sister Agnes in attendance.

Our family extends our heartfelt and deep gratitude to the staff at the Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence Long Term Care residence. For more than 10 years they provided compassionate and respectful care. Known as “Papa” to the staff, it was a testament to his likeable demeanor and kind heart.

We will miss you dearly Uncle Bill. May you rest in peace now.

RIP Uncle Bill. I will remember the times you took me camping, fishing, and hunting in my teen and beyond years. When you went sailing with me, your surprise at seeing the sailboat actually going to windward was priceless. We had MANY fine times together for many years. - Michael .....>
