In memory of

William Muir

June 29, 1931 -  April 13, 2023

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce that William (Bill) Muir, of Toronto, Ontario, passed peacefully in his sleep on April 13th, 2023.

Born in Paisley, Scotland on June 29th, 1931 he was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, an uncle, a grandfather, and a beloved friend to many. A veteran of the Korean War, he later worked many years for the Salvation Army and Goodwill. After his retirement from Goodwill he became President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 210, and he held various other jobs which he worked until the age of 84. Always the life of the party, he was a talented musician and had a passion for entertaining family and friends with his trumpet playing, his piano playing, his singing, and his jokes. Even through his eight year long battle with dementia, and his last year with cancer, he never lost his sense of humour, his pleasant disposition, his good manners, his gratitude, his desire to help, and his concern for his family and friends.

He is survived by his sister Margaret Stevenson, his brother and sister-in-law Tommy & May Muir, his daughter Elizabeth Rennie, his daughter and son-in-law Allison & Mario Ferrante, his granddaughter Erica Muir and her husband Sekou Lumumba, his grandson Matthew Rennie and his partner Julia Bird, his niece and nephews; Debbie, David & Elise Reilly, Robert Muir and family, Tom Gledhill and family, Gordon & Karen Gledhill and family, John & Irene Campbell and family, Jim & Morag Stevenson and family, and Richard Stevenson and partner.

Our sincere thanks and extreme gratitude to the very special staff at Southlake Village for their kindness, their compassion and the great care they provided for the last three and a half years.

Following his cremation, a private family service will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm, at Trinity United Church in Newmarket, Ontario. For those who would like to watch the service from the comfort of your home, you can do so at the Zoom link below:

Uncle Billy (Bill) was like a second father to me as my own dad passed away when i was eleven years old. He was a hero to me, and I always enjoyed his company, which sadly in the latter years I didn't have the pleasure of very often. He will always be in my heart and never forgotten RIP Uncle Billy 🙏 💙

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Uncle Billy, An Absolute Legend 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

An honest man here lies at rest,
As e’er God with His image blest:
The friend of man, the friend of truth;
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:
If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.

Dear Allison with family,
I was saddened to hear that your father passed away.My thoughts are with you and your family.

Your father was such a wonderful man, I was lucky to know him.

It is hard to lose someone who meant so much to me and even harder that I can’t be there to say good- bye.

“ Those we have held in our arms for a little while,
we hold in our hearts forever “

He will be deeply missed.
