William (Bill) David Johns passed away peacefully at the side of his wife Diane, and children, Alison and Steven, on Thursday February 13 at his home in Toronto.
Bill is survived by his wife Diane, his two children Alison (Jeremy) and Steven (Sue) and four grandchildren William, Jackson, Paige and Lucas. He will be warmly remembered by his sisters Anne (Wayne) and Carolyn (Peter) and his brothers Darrin (Lynne) and Brad (Sharle) as well as many other family members and friends. We miss him so much already and know he will forever be part of us.
Bill was born on November 22, 1949, in Collingwood, Ontario, the second of five children to Florence and Ralph. He attended the University of Waterloo where he met and later married Diane in May 1971. Bill received his Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering (‘73) and Master of Applied Science in Civil Engineering (‘82) from the University of Waterloo. He spent over 30 years at TransCanada Pipelines (now TC Energy) in various engineering roles and retired at the age of 55. He went on to a second career as a visual artist, spending 20 years honing his watercolour skills and filling the hearts and homes of family and friends with his beautiful paintings.
Bill was a passionate and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. His favorite place was being at the cottage with his family, enjoying the serenity of Pine Court, playing board games, boating, swimming and doing fix-it projects. Bill loved to downhill ski, teaching his kids his graceful style and taking the family on wonderful ski vacations. He also really enjoyed exploring the world, travelling extensively with Diane and friends in retirement.
Bill was intensely curious. He loved getting lost in museums and art galleries. He enjoyed making all kinds of things and discovering how things work. But most of all, he loved spending time with his beloved wife, and his kids and grandkids. Bill’s kindness and patience will be remembered by everyone he interacted with. He lived every day to the fullest and was immensely grateful for all the people in his life.
