In memory of

William Alfred Prosser

June 3, 1922 -  October 8, 2022

William Alfred Prosser (Bill) died peacefully on October 8th, four months after his 100th birthday.

Bill was born in Hamilton, and he grew up in a large and out-going family. After a short time working in the steel mill, he studied science at McMaster University. After graduation, Bill moved to Deep River, Ontario, to work for Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL). There he met his first wife, Olga, and they had two children, William Christopher and Patricia Katherine.

Bill held many senior-level positions at AECL and in 1960 spent six months in India, advising on the building of early research reactors in that country. He was actively involved in the life of the town, including community theatre, performing and directing with the Deep River Players. In Deep River, Bill met Dorothy, whom he married in Toronto in 1961.

After moving to Toronto, Bill went to work for the T. Eaton Company, later becoming Director of Eaton’s Research Bureau and representing Canada at international retail conferences.

Bill and Dorothy loved life and travelled widely: building a house near Barcelona, visiting Japan during the springtime, and returning often to Dorothy’s home in Jamaica as well as other Caribbean islands. Bill was an engaged and playful Grandfather, full of boundless creativity and fun, enthusiastically embracing every new project, and patiently teaching everything from woodworking to pancake-making.

Bill was predeceased by Dorothy and her son, Murray. He is survived by Dorothy’s daughter, Louise and her husband Paul, Murray’s former wife Jackie, Chris and his wife Jane, and Pat and her husband Ted. He will be much missed by his grandchildren, Jessica, Julia, Lisa, Elizabeth, Adam, Emily and Shon, as well as his many great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the three wonderful homecare workers, Prudence, Vivian and Ann, who helped care for ‘Baba’, as well as the wonderful support teams at LHIN and SCHC Ontario.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held in the Spring of 2023.
