McALLISTER, WILLIAM ALEXANDER “Alex”
Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Friday, June 12, 2020, at the age of 83. Reunited at last with his loving wife, Barbara McAllister (Roxburgh). Loving father of John McAllister of Oakville (partner Perry Bennett), and the late Lisa McAllister-Playter. Loving father of Barb’s children, Lynn Rotheram of Newcastle (husband Tony Rotheram), and Carol Lawrence of Cheshire, England (partner Michael Williams). Cherished grandfather of Brianna Playter, Olivia Smith (husband Scott Smith), Mathew Rotheram (partner Stephanie Howard), Paul Lawrence (partner Lucy Whelan), Sean Lawrence (partner Gemma Blenkinsop), Alex Williams, and Molly Williams. Great grandfather of Blake Smith, Adelaide Smith, Corbin Rotheram, Presley Rotheram, Oliver Lawrence, and Maisie Lawrence. Alex was a beloved brother, and is predeceased by James McAllister, Joseph McAllister, and Margaret McDonald (McAllister). Alex was a beloved brother-in-law of Eleanor McAllister of Ingleside, and predeceased by Florence McAllister, and Ron McDonald. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Alex (aka Doc) will be remembered for his work with the 1913 Ontario Regiment Army Cadets in Oshawa, and summer Cadet training in Trenton. Alex will also be remembered for his many hours of volunteer work for the St. John’s Ambulance program, and as a driver/helper for the Oshawa Senior Centre (John Street). The McAllister family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caring and compassionate nursing staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, Extendicare Oshawa, and Fairview Lodge Whitby, for professionalism and attention shown to Alex and his family- words cannot express. Graveside service will be held at THORNTON FUNERAL CENTRE (1200 Thornton Road, North, Oshawa 905-579-6787) on Monday July 20, 2020 at 11 am. Following Ontario's COVID -19 Protocol, number of attendees may be limited and there is no access to the building- please contact the Funeral Home for more information. I have many fond memories of working with Doc with the #1913 Ontario Regiment Cadets. He was a kind, patient and gentle soul, and always had a lot of time for everyone, but especially his cadets. I will truly miss him. Rest easy Doc, your watch is over. We have the con.
