In memory of

Wilfredo Quito Trinidad

June 29, 1945 -  August 16, 2023

It is with immense sadness that we mourn the loss of our dear brother, tito (uncle), and friend, Wilfredo "Willie" Quito Trinidad. He passed away peacefully at his brother's home, surrounded by his loved ones on the morning of Wednesday, August 16, 2023.

Born in Manila, Philippines on June 29, 1945, Willie was the second eldest of five brothers born to Ceferina Quito and Hilario Trinidad. From a young age, he took great care to support his siblings (Ernesto, Stephen, Sisenando, and Reynaldo) by managing household chores and ensuring that everyone was fed. It was evident from a very early age that he was deeply concerned for the well being of everyone in his life.

Wilfredo also excelled in his studies, aspiring to pursue medicine in university. However, due to the family's financial limitations, he instead opted to study Nursing at San Juan de Diyos. Always envisioning that he would find a way for the family to begin a better life abroad, he eventually migrated to Toronto, Canada to accept a job at Riverdale hospital.

Shortly after, he sponsored his brothers, Ernesto and Stephen to join him in Toronto. After a few years, he purchased a home in the neighbourhood of Corktown that would eventually become the family's base. He then managed to sponsor their parents and Reynaldo. Finally, Sisenando arrived and the family could begin anew with all of the opportunities Canada had to offer.

Through the years, he continued to welcome in-laws, nieces, and nephews with his consistent, loving care. At family gatherings, everyone looked forward to his delicious contributions including his signature dishes: afritada, adobo, lechon, and leche flan. Because of his incredible talent for choosing furniture and textiles, family and friends would also consult him for decor advice that beautified everyone's homes. Most importantly, he was a pillar of wisdom and courage during challenging times. He never ceased to show up anytime someone was in need.

Along with his devotion to his family, he was deeply dedicated to bettering the community. He was actively involved in the Fiesta Filipino Dance Troupe, as well as helping the poor and campaigning for LGBTQ+ rights. Eventually, he would take on a position as a public health nurse for the City of Toronto, counselling others about sexual health and well-being.

Eventually, Willie retired after 36 years of service in the healthcare field. He found joy in his later years through travelling the world, keeping in touch with friends via social media, cooking & sharing his culinary specialties, and watching dramas on his favourite Philippine channel - GMA. In his final years, he split his time between Canada and the Philippines connecting to his aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as repairing the family homes in Manila and Lucban.

Despite his recent illness and hospitalization, he continued to show concern for his loved ones, as well as all of the medical professionals caring for him, until the very end.

While we are saddened by his passing and he will be forever missed, his legacy will continue through the countless lives he touched here and around the world.

May eternal rest be granted to Wilfredo as he is reunited with all of his ancestors in heaven.

***Note: Visitation (August 22-23) and funeral service (August 24) details below. The family kindly requests that you withhold floral tributes because Wilfredo will be entombed in a mausoleum that does NOT allow fresh flowers. Moreover, please refrain from bringing food to the viewings because Mount Pleasant does not have the space to accommodate it. Maraming salamat (thank you for your understanding).
