In memory of
Wayne Wing Jone Lem
February 1, 1940 -
April 21, 2021
Dr. Wayne Wing Jone Lem, B.A.Sc., M.A.Sc., Ph.D., P.Eng. (February 01, 1940 - April 21, 2021).
Wayne Lem was a husband, father, son, brother, role model, educator, and storyteller. He passed away suddenly in hospital (Mississauga). Son of Chun Att and Kam Yuen Lem, he leaves behind his beloved Hin Yee, children Susan, Janet, Kenneth, William, Lillian, & Melissa, and sister Rita (husband Phillip, children Justin (Francine), Steven (Naomi), & Angelica).
Wayne was born in China and joined his father in Canada with his mother and sister in 1952. He grew up as the only Chinese boy in his neighborhood while working at the family restaurant, Regal Lunch. He had a passion for education and graduated with a Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate from the University of Toronto, earning the first PhD in his village. He would spend over 25 years as a Professor, teaching at Humber College. Here he shared many memories with his colleagues and met generations of students. He would continue to teach part-time in retirement because he just couldn't imagine not teaching. He would continue to teach until he was 78 years old, but would have loved to continue if he physically could.
For those who had the pleasure of meeting him, he remembered you. Wayne was a dynamic and charasmatic storyteller, often adding puns and repeating jokes, to keep his audience captivated. He will live on in his lessons and our treasured memories of his love and support.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for our father. Thank you for touching his life and making it full. We could only wish that he could be present to thank you himself.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, please donate to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) Foundation, Trillium Health Partners (Mississauga), or Diabetes Canada.
Kind thanks, the Lem family.
