In memory of

Wayne Harold Chang

April 16, 1964 -  October 30, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Wayne Harold Chang on October 30, 2025.

Wayne was a beloved son of the late Keith and Cheryl Chang, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became. He was the devoted husband of Hilary, the proud and loving father to Declan, and a cherished brother to Gail (David), Elizabeth, Donna, and Andrew. He is lovingly remembered by his in-laws, Anne and Tanya Clarke, and his large extended family whose lives he touched with his warmth, kindness and generosity.

Wayne was a faculty member at the University of Waterloo’s Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business, where he inspired and engaged students through his passion for innovation, thoughtful mentorship, and unwavering dedication to education. His contributions to the academic community and the lives of his students will be remembered with deep appreciation.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Waterloo, with details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wayne Chang Memorial Fund (https://imodules.uwaterloo.ca/WayneChang), supporting a foundational scholarship in his name, or to a charity of your choice, in Wayne’s memory.

Forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered.

Remembering Wayne Chang

Wayne Chang was a man of brilliance, humility, and boundless generosity. What stood out to me apart from his intellect or accomplishments was his unwavering kindness and patience. Despite his demanding schedule and deep expertise, Wayne always made time to help me during time of need. He never hesitated to walk me through the basics, coaching me with care and clarity in areas I was unfamiliar with. He genuinely wanted to see others success. Wayne’s ability to lift others up while carrying so much himself is something I will always admire, I was super proud of him, and even prouder to have learned from him.

May all the goodness Wayne poured into this world return to his family tenfold. Sending thoughts and prayers to his Hilary, Declan, Donna, Elizabeth, Gail, Andrew and David during this difficult time. His legacy of love, generosity, and quiet strength will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to know him.

I don't think I've ever met someone as positive and optimistic as Wayne. When I close my eyes, I can still see him so vividly in my office doorway, chin up, eyes wide open, bursting with enthusiasm for some innovative new initiative he is spearheading. It was a gift to be able to work with Wayne for the past 7 years - a gift I will forever cherish. I will miss him dearly.
