In memory of

Wayne Fowler

October 5, 1947 -  November 12, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Wayne Fowler. As the saying goes, “Red sky at night, sailors’ delight,” we find comfort in the beautiful sunsets that remind us of Wayne’s vibrant spirit and the joy he brought into our lives.

Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Known for his sarcastic humor and love of teasing, he always knew how to bring a smile to our faces. As a dedicated educator with the Durham District School Board and a lifelong learner, he deeply influenced many lives with his wisdom and kindness. In retirement, he became a bird carver, an avid gardener, and nurtured a deep love for nature.

On a summer night in 1981, while sitting on the boat and watching the beautiful 3:30 am sunrise in Prinyers Cove, he wrote about the experience with his co-pilot at his side. His co-pilot remained at his side until the end.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral or fuss. Instead, a private Celebration of Life will be held in the spring in the gardens he loved so much in his backyard, symbolizing renewal and the enduring impact Wayne had on all who knew him.

May he sail away in his dreams.

My sincere condolences to Lynne and family on the recent passing of Wayne. He was such a lovely man…kind educator, devoted husband, father and grandfather, talented carver, quick wit, and a steady source of quiet strength and wisdom. He will be missed by many in so many ways. The sun will not set on his memory nor his warm smile.

Our sympathies go out to the Fowler family. Even though our paths had crossed for many years I will always remember the great conversations and fiscussions we had at the Principal Conferences as roommates snd fellow administrators

Wayne and I have been friends for years and we always got along well together! We were both from Kingston and met in Peterborough at teachers college. When we both got hired by the Whitby Board of Education, we decided to rent an apartment together in Whitby. Soon after moving to Whitby I met Ruth, my wife, who was living in Ajax, and she was sharing an apartment with Lynne. Wayne suggested one day that I try to set up an evening when we could go out for coffee with Ruth and Lynne. That happened and the rest is history! They were married the week before us and we were in each others wedding parties in 1970.
Condolences to Lynne, Darren, Tara, and Gabby and family

We went out and rented our first apartment only to find out that we had without knowing it, got our apartment just with two apartments separating us from Wayne and Lynne.
