Waltraud Gisela Wald

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Waltraud Gisela Wald on Friday, March 17th, 2023 at the age of 91 years.

Waltraud was born on July 30, 1931 in Berlin, Germany. She married the love of her life, Klaus, in 1954 and would have celebrated 69 years of marriage in October of this year. Waltraud and Klaus immigrated to Canada in 1957 settling in Toronto. She worked for the Government of Ontario as a Level IV Laboratory Technician in Drug Testing and Validation.

Waltraud enjoyed playing piano, painting and stained glass crafts. She also enjoyed regular trips to the family cottage in Parry Sound and more recently, afternoon drives with her husband in the regional countryside. She particularly enjoyed her regular afternoon cup of coffee and cake with Klaus.

Left to mourn are her loving husband Klaus, sons Bernard, Michael (Anita), grandsons Sebastian, Michael and Matthew, nephew Peter Stein (Maria) and extended family in Canada, Germany and the US.

Waltraud was predeceased by her father Alfred Kawa, mother Martha Kawa and sister Gisela Stein.

Farewell to a family matriarch, a beautiful woman who lived a very eventful life and was a survivor up to and including Covid. Tante you are missed and I take comfort thinking that you are with the others in our family getting reacquainted and looking after us down here. I will see you again one day! We are all so sad to hear about the passing of your mom/wife/aunt and grandmother. She was such a nice woman and I always enjoyed speaking German with her. We wish all of you lots of strength for the next few difficult months. May you find comfort in the memories and the eternal love you have for her and that she had for you. She is at a place now where there is no more pain. Many comfort hugs from all of us with Marion, Walter, Steven, Dennis and Chris.

As an old friend of Bernie I was a guest of Waltraud and Klaus a few years back. Such sweet, gentle old fashioned hospitality. Although Waltraud was fairly old at that time I could clearly still see the youthful glimmer in her spirit. So sorry I wont have a chance to see it again,

Emmet
