In memory of

Walter Alois EDERER

Ederer, Walter Alois (December 10, 1938 - October 27, 2017) passed away peacefully in Toronto with his wife and soulmate Marion (nee Fisher) by his side.

Walter was born In Munich, Germany to Georg & Karolina Ederer (Schneider) and will be deeply missed by his siblings Hannelore (Lothar), Hans (Hilde), his nephews Werner (Silke), Volkmar (Corina/deceased), Wolfgang (Barbara), his niece Monika (of Germany/Switzerland) and his many relatives and friends. He took early retirement which he enjoyed up until his illness with Lewy Body Dementia. The family is grateful for the care and support provided by the staff at Wellesley Central Place.

He received his education in Germany and was proud of his Bavarian heritage. His greatest passion in life was mountain climbing and hiking in the Alps. He arrived by ship in New York City in 1962 and loved to reminisce, in particular about his wonderful trip and experiences travelling with his VW Beetle visiting all the National and State Parks in the U.S. He later moved to Toronto in 1963 where he continued to pursue the designing and manufacturing of fine jewellery, eventually running his own Company for many years.

Walter was extremely competent and unassuming in all facets of life and enjoyed working on various projects where he could be creative whether it be business related or personal. He loved sports. His years as an instructor with the High Park Ski School, including a term as Director, were especially rewarding. He also enjoyed windsurfing, waterskiing, hiking, reading a good book, as well as travelling with Marion. However, Walter was most content in the serenity of his cottage on an island on Georgian Bay where over the 38 years he enjoyed nature, experienced some spectacular northern lights and sunsets and loved to entertain friends and relatives.

Visitation will take place between 11:00-12:00 on Saturday, November 18, 2017 followed by a Service and Celebration of Walter’s Life at 12:00 at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Rd., Toronto, Ontario (East Gate Entrance) with light refreshments to follow.

As a remembrance, and if desired, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

About 30 years ago Walter and his lovely Marion opened their home to a perfect stranger who had seemingly nothing in common other than Walter's nationality. We became friends fast, and I will never forget Walter's warmheartedness, hospitality, generosity, spunk, wittiness, and his love for nature. The wonderful human being Walter was left a deep impression on me, and even though it's been so many years that I had the privilege to get to know Walter, he comes up in conversations quite frequently and will continue to do so in the future, as the way he lived his life taught me important lessons. Peter, Jillian and I are deeply saddened about Walter's passing and our hearts go out to his family, but especially to Marion.
