Wally Deen Khan
August 2, 1944 – November 27, 2015
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Wally Deen Khan at the age of 71 on Friday, November 27, 2015. Wally died peacefully at Providence HealthCare surrounded by his family and friends. Son of the late Wally Deen and Thelma Khan. Beloved father to Adrian (Michelle), Natalie (Josh) and Philip. Adored grandfather, lovingly and tenderly known as Papa Khan to Santino, Khaleesi, AJ, and Treyce. Cherished brother of Janet (Maurice), June Ann, Rafican (Hafeez), Gemma (John) and Faza (Fedor). Beloved and adored Uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Cherished and adored partner to Mila.
He will be forever loved and forever remembered.
Family and friends may pay their respects and celebrate his life on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm at the Pine Hills Visitation Centre at 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough. A Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 10:30 am. at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church at 1148 Finch Avenue, Pickering. A reception will follow the mass in the church hall. Interment on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 9:30 am at Pine Hills Cemetery at 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough. Donations may be made in the memory of Wally Deen Khan to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Wally graduated from St. Stanislaus College in Guyana and emigrated to Canada in 1965. He had a most successful career in the insurance business culminating as Senior Account Executive for Group Life and Health and Special Risk. He was consistently sought after by the head hunters of the insurance business. He was unstoppable as Chairman of the Employee Benefit Industry Ski-Day Committee and Co-ordinator and volunteer with the Canadian Paraplegic Association.
Wally had many hobbies (playing cricket, golfing and good food) but he truly loved fixing things that were broken and socializing with friends and family. Wally never met anyone that he didn’t make feel special and important. He loved music and dancing, was always up for a good time and never missed a Guyanese dance if the Vibes or the Ramblers were playing and New Year’s Eve would always find him on the dance floor toasting in the New Year.
His mode of transportation in Guyana was a motor bike but in Canada driving Town Cars became his style.
Wally’s family and faith were his anchor. He was such a vital part of all family gatherings. Unfailingly January 1st of each year, family and friends would gather at Wally’s home for an open house to welcome in the New Year. It was always a good time when he prepared all the Guyanese hot and spicy dishes and served a full bar. This was Wally’s determination to contribute to our family cohesion.
Even when Wally’s knees would be causing him excruciating pain Aleve would be part of his “breakfast of champions” and he would show up for his Usher duties unfailingly on Sunday morning.
Wally was reliable, considerate, predictable and a true ambassador of kindness and compassion with a wonderful attitude towards life, his friends and those around him. Wally had an ability to cross the generation gap with ease.
After the tears have dried and goodbyes have been said, all we have to hold onto are happy memories we have shared with the loved ones we have lost, this is what keeps them alive in our hearts and in our minds, they will continue to live on through us.
To Providence Healthcare Centre and the Personal Care Workers Rosario, Mary Joy, Lowella and Laura your compassion and care were most appreciated.
In his memory we ask that you perform a random act of kindness, smile and say Hello to a stranger, stop and smell the flowers and take the time to enjoy the beauty of nature. Always say Thank You, and never miss an opportunity to tell someone you love them and next Spring play a round of golf for Wally.
