In memory of
陳蕙穠太夫人Wai Yung Chan
October 8, 1919 -
February 28, 2019
Wai Yung Chan, 99, passed away on Feb 28, 2019 following a brief illness at Yee Hong Long Term Care where she spent her last seven golden years.
She was born on Oct 8, 1919 in Sun Wei, China, to father Shuet Tong Wong and mother Kam Lin Lam. She grew up in a large family with one sister and four brothers. On Feb 10, 1939 she married Kwan Ting Chan in Hong Kong. She was a loving mother, homemaker and an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed making outfits for all her children and passed on her sewing skills to her daughters. Besides routine housework, she also spent time helping her children with their study. In Sept 1975, she migrated to Toronto with retired husband and family. She was very active in caring for her grandchildren, also taught them how to sew and play mahjong. Many wonderful memories were created over the mahjong table and the sewing machine.
Mom was always intellectually ahead of her time, and a forward thinker. She was one of the few Chinese women who knew how to read and write in her era. She was a strong, determined and independent person, and we will miss her dearly forever.
Wai Yung was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, beloved husband of 50 years and eldest son, Man Hong Chan, and his wife Chi Kwan. She was the loving mother of Clifford (Marian) Chan, James (Patricia) Chan, Alice (Richard) Billesbach, Roger (Gonia) Chan and Martha Chan (Dan Couvrette). She was the beloved Grandma of Gala (Lee), Dodge (Patti), Anson (Kris), Karen (Perry), Chris, Byron, Clara, Mischa (Alison) and Dylan, and Great Grandma of Eliza, Ethan, Chase, Tagen, Kellan, Kyra, Jaiden, Brendon and Evelyn. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
