Wai-Chun Huey was born in China on November 11, 1951, to Ching Cheung Hung and Wai Lim Kong.
On October 17, 1974, she graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, specializing in Botany and minoring in Biochemistry.
In 1974, she became a teacher at Pooi Tun Secondary School where she taught Mathematics (Form 1) and Biology (Form 3-5). The principal was impressed by her extensive use of visual aids in teaching Biology and she was actively engaged in field projects. She was conscientious, trustworthy, and full of initiative. She got along well with staff and was well respected by her students. In 1977, she was appointed as the Assistant to the Dean of Academic Studies.
In 1977, she was the Head of the Biology Department at Lung Cheung Government Secondary Technical School where she taught all levels of Biology, Chemistry (Form 4, 2, 1), Mathematics (Form 1) and supported the Science Club, Gardening Club, and Students Union. She was noted to be resourceful, enthusiastic, and friendly.
She immigrated to Canada in 1986. In 1987, she started as a secretary and worked up to Assistant Vice-President of the Krugarand Corporation. She had a major role in building the company. She took the lead in re-zoning their property to convert them into condo projects that mixed office and retail spaces. She met with architects, lawyers, and city councillors to negotiate deals and leases. She played a major role in decision-making during her work as a Signing Officer. She was very dedicated and worked there for 38 years (until 2026). She was noted to be friendly, a leader and an excellent organizer.
She was always a loving supportive mother, from the very beginning, even as a single mom, and until the day she passed away. She was also the strongest and the most detail-oriented person that her daughter has known. Her favourite hobbies included knitting, shopping, and walking.
She is survived by her daughter Diana Huey.
