In memory of

陳麗英女士 Vivian Lai Ying Chan

February 11, 1950 -  December 6, 2020

Vivian Lai-Ying Chan passed away after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer on December 6, 2020 at the age of 70.

Vivian was born on February 11, 1950 to Bun and Wai Fong Chan in Hong Kong. She was the eldest of three children. Vivian’s younger brothers are Francis and Eric Chan. Vivian and her family moved from Hong Kong to Canada on September 8, 1970. She studied in Accounting at Ryerson and had a very successful career working at various accounting and law firms.

Not long after arriving in Canada, Vivian married and had two children: Her son Alan Wong was born on June 23, 1980 and her daughter Janette Wong on May 13, 1985. Vivian was a devoted mother and always put the needs of her family before herself. She is also a proud Grandmother to Claire and Luke Wong, who brought much joy into her life. Her family meant the world to her.

Her family and friends will remember her as a strong-willed fighter but a kind, caring and loving individual. She would always put up a good fight in any challenges she comes across. This was most evident in her fight against cancer where she became one of the most famous "miracle" patients and exceeded the expectations of all her health-care providers. She enjoyed playing badminton, dancing and travelling all around the world.

She will be sorely missed by all her loved ones.

I will always remember the first time I met Vivian. It was the end of second year in University and she had come to visit Alan at Queen's. Her cheerful spirit and kindness was evident to anyone who met her.

One of my lingering memories of Vivian was when she insisted that I stay for lunch during an impromptu visit and making me a delicious bowl of noodles. She had a way of putting people at ease that I remember even to this day.

Rest in peace
Mike
