In memory of

Vito Rigillo

April 9, 1947 -  June 3, 2017

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Vito Rigillo due to complications arising from stomach cancer, on Saturday June 3rd 2017 at the Trillium Health Centre. Born in 1947 in San Agata, Italy, to Carmelo Rigillo (deceased) and Carmina Toto (deceased), Vito and his parents and sister Olympia left Italy for Switzerland, immigrating to Toronto to join his sister Rosa (deceased) and her husband Rocco (deceased) in the late 1960s. He decided to pursue a career in hairdressing in Canada while working with his brother-in-law Rocco fixing the roof of a hair salon in Toronto on a hot day. When he looked down through the hole, he felt the cool air conditioning hit his face, and saw a hairdresser cutting the hair of a beautiful woman -- he had found his calling. While he loved hairdressing, he also had a passion for ancient history, and always wished he could have become a history professor. He married his wife Patricia (deceased), also a hairdresser at the time, in Toronto in 1980. They had their daughter Nicole in 1981 and their son Michael in 1983, and worked incredibly hard to give all the best things to their children, who miss them both very deeply. Vito was always smiling, as you can see in his photos, and as the wrinkles on his face always showed. He loved spending days at the beach or at the pool, growing vegetables and hot chili peppers in his garden, peeking in the windows of the local hair salons (which always embarrassed Patricia), and taking a very long time to eat dinner – he was always the last one to finish, and always put up with us teasing him for it. He will be sadly missed by Nicole (and Ravi) and Michael (and Diosbel), his sister Olympia (and Fidel), nieces and nephews Mary (and Tony) Lina, Lisa, Carlo, Nick, Mike, Melissa, Stefano, and Matteo. He will be especially missed by the Kumar family, who welcomed him as a member of their family over four decades.

A viewing will be held on Friday June 9th from 4pm to 8pm and a funeral service on Saturday June 10th from 10:00 am (burial to follow) at the Meadowvale Funeral Centre (full details under the funeral tab). Following the funeral, Vito’s brother-in-law Sonny and his wife Bozena and daughter Jacqueline have kindly invited guests to a lunch at their home at the following address:

536 Amarone Court
Mississauga, Ontario

Please share your memories with us by signing the guestbook or uploading any photos you have to the site.

For many, many years Vito worked his magic on my hair, always a perfectionist and so talented. People would often ask me who did my hair. We were never at a loss for conversation during the hour I spent in his chair each week. He was a soft spoken, respectful, caring and kind man. He always spoke of his family with pride and love. I am so sad to hear of his death and offer condolences to all his loved ones.

Vito was such a kind and caring person, and very conscientious and meticulous in his hair styling. We had wonderful conversations over the years, and lots of laughs and tears, and I know how much he loved his family and extended family.

I was at Fl'Hair today and everyone was very sad about the news of his passing.
Nicole and Michael, you are in my prayers.
Blessings,
Deborah Hart
