With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Virginia Chua on June 27, 2025, at the age of 80. A devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, beloved sister, and faithful daughter, Virginia left this world quietly and gracefully—just as she lived.
Born on December 19, 1944 in Manila, Philippines, Virginia was the eldest of eight children. She embraced her role with quiet strength and steady care. She is predeceased by her father, Mariano Chua Yu King in 1969, her mother, Que Kim Kuan in 2014, her dear sister, Josefina Chua Chiaco in 1986, and her first grand pup, Peanut in 2023.
For over 53 years, Virginia shared a deep and enduring love with her husband, Fred Ci. Together they raised five children - four daughters, Tiffany (Chris Bourn), Cherry (Giancarlo Di Tullio), Melody (Nico Tretschock), and Leitz; and their son, Fridmar (Mark Statham) - who were the centre of her world. She was also a proud grandmother of four, Sydney and Zoey (Cherry) and Noelle and Noah (Melody), each of whom brought her great joy. Her grand pup Juno (Fridmar) also added plenty of love, energy and excitement.
Virginia was a woman of unwavering faith. Her devotion to God and the Catholic Church was a guiding force throughout her life. She attended Mass regularly, drawing strength, peace, and purpose from her spiritual practice. Her quiet reverence and example of living her faith were a source of inspiration to all who knew her.
Selfless, humble and generous, Virginia always put others before herself, even in her final days. She lived a life of deep love and quiet impact, finding joy in the simple things—especially in the presence of family.
She attended Le Cordon Bleu with Patricia, one of her beloved sisters. This served as the impetus for her deep passion for the culinary arts. A gifted cook, Virginia expressed her care through the meals she meticulously prepared, often creating her own recipes. Her infamous stuffed chicken was a family favourite. They knew that it was a special occasion whenever it was served for it was truly a labour of love. Her infinite appreciation for diverse cuisines—especially Indian and Japanese—reflected her open heart and adventurous spirit.
Virginia will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched, especially by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her legacy of love, sacrifice, faith, and quiet strength will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
In lieu of flowers, our family would like donations to go to Parkinson Canada. (Link available under 'Donations' in top right menu).
