In memory of

Violet Houston

March 11, 1923 -  March 30, 2022

It is with great love and deep sadness that we say goodbye to our dear mother Violet Margaret Houston. Vi passed away at North York General Hospital on March 30, 2022 at the age of 99.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband William (Bill) Houston. She will be dearly missed by her children Graeme (Susan), Lesley, Mark (Cathy). She was a proud grandmother to Courtney (Lindsay), Trevor, Krista, Sean, Luke, Brandy, Laura, Nicholas and Elizabeth and she took great joy in her great grandchildren Layla and Kairi.
Vi was born in Glasgow Scotland on March 11, 1923. She had an older sister Gwen (predeceased) and two younger brothers Ivor (predeceased) and Tony. She came from a musical family and enjoyed singing opera. During the WW2 she worked on a farm as a loyal member of the “Women’s Land Army”. She met her cherished husband at the local church youth club and later immigrated to Canada with him in 1952. While busy raising her children she also worked for her husband’s engineering company.
Vi and Bill loved to play golf at Bayview Country Club as well as their home in Florida and in her later years enjoyed watching it on the TV. She enjoyed knitting and made many blankets over the years. She also believed chocolate was one of the main food groups! To many she was considered a kind and friendly lady right up to her last day.
Vi resided at Amica-Bayview for the last 12 years, which became her home and community. She loved her life there and participated in several committees and supported the “Helping Hands” charity. Special thanks to the staff, particularly on the 2nd floor, for all the wonderful care that they provided. We are extremely grateful to the palliative care team at North York General hospital, whom kept our loving mother comfortable for the last few days of her life.
Vi will be missed by family and friends in Scotland and Canada. It will be hard to imagine life without her.
A private family interment is to take place at York Cemetery, Toronto.
Donations, if desired to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice, in remembrance of Vi would be welcomed.
