In memory of

Vincent James (Jim) Macaluso

June 23, 1922 -  October 29, 2018

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Vincent James (Jim) Macaluso at age 96. Born and raised in the Danforth area of Toronto, Jim was the last surviving member of a close-knit family of brother Frank (Pauline), sisters Rose (Bill Black) & Mary (Gerry Kelly). He served in the Canadian Army, Toronto Scottish Regiment, Princess Pats Division, during WW2. While stationed in London he met the Scottish love of his life, Patricia O’Hare, a member of the British WAF. Jim & Pat married after the war & raised 2 children, James Bradley (Jimmy) (deceased) and Theresa (Terry) (Lou Nuspl) in their home in the then rural area of Scarborough. During this time, he worked at Continental Can on Cherry Street as a foreman making paper. His retirement years were spent with his beloved wife, family and their many friends enjoying their summer cottage on Six Mile Lake, their winter escapes To St. Petersburg Fl., trips to Scotland, England, Europe and the occasional cruise. After the passing of his wife Pat (2013), Jim loved his daily long walks in the ravine, feeding the ducks and birds, behind his retirement home at Cedarbrook Lodge where he had made many dear friends over the last 9 years. A proud and exceptionally healthy member (he still did his army exercises daily) of the Scottish Regiment, he attended the Dunkirk Remembrance Ceremonies in France in 2015 at age 93, followed by a visit to family in Scotland who will greatly miss their Uncle Jim. He will be sadly missed by his granddaughters Heather Griffin (Sean) & Veronica Spencer, and great grandchildren Aidan, Dysan, Autumn, Rose and Kieran, as well as his many nieces & nephews, his friends and their families with whom he spent numerous hours over the years. The family want to thank everyone at Cedarbrook Retirement Lodge. Their care, attention and concern made him refer to Cedarbrook with appreciation and affection as “my home”. He truly loved it and everyone there, his friends, the nurses, all the staff. Many thanks are also extended to the doctors, nurses and staff at Centenary Hospital for their concern and excellent care during his many visits, and for making his final weeks comfortable. You are invited to join the family in a Memorial and Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 17, 2018, from 1 – 4 PM, at The Lake House & Event Centre, 600 Liverpool Rd., Pickering. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Toronto Scottish Regiment Foundation or a charity of your choice.
