In memory of

Victoria Siu Ling Lung

February 2, 1939 -  October 3, 2019

On the eve of October 3, 2019, Victoria Siu-Ling Lung, 80, peacefully joined our Creator when she succumbed to aggressive cancer that started to afflict her on August 22, 2019. Victoria Siu-Ling was the loving and devoted mother of William Kar-Way, and Maria Wai-Mun. She is survived by sisters, Wan Mei-Ling and Hor-Ling, and brothers, Pak-Ling and Ho-Ling in Hong Kong, and sister, Fung-Ling in Australia.

Victoria Siu-Ling was a respectable school teacher at Mary of Providence Primary School in Hong Kong for 20 years, teaching Chinese, Arithmetic, Social Studies, Science, Physical Education and Religion. At age 42, along with her husband, Gilbert, Victoria brought her children to Canada, and the family settled in Toronto. In Toronto, she kept up her teaching by being a Heritage Language Instructor on the weekends with the Toronto District and Catholic School boards until retirement in 2003. During the week, she had been a personal assistant to an orthodontist and a caregiver for the orthodontist’s children for 14 years.

Victoria Siu-Ling had always not wanted to be very aged with disabilities and chronic illnesses. She had always prayed that if the Great Lord was to take her, He would take her quickly with minimal suffering. On October 3, 2019, Victoria had her wishes granted, and prayers answered. She returned to God’s kingdom with very little pain and with her two children embracing her while she took her final breaths.

Victoria’s family would like to thank all family members, neighbours, colleagues, and friends who have extended help and kindness over the past six very difficult weeks; and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for the great care provided for Victoria Siu-Ling. In memory of Victoria Siu-Ling Lung, donations to the Sunnybrook Foundation, directed to either Internal Medicine or Cancer Research, would be greatly appreciated by the family.

I sign this guest book with grief. I've known Ms. Victoria Siu Ling Lung since I was born, being neighbors with her family and growing up playing with her children, Maria and William. Maria first called me about her cancer diagnosis on Sept 28th, letting me know that she was only diagnosed in early Sept but the cancer has already metastasized to the liver, with poor prognosis, and that she was being cared for in the ICU of Sunnybrook. The progression of her illness since early Sept was shocking. I stayed in touch with Maria daily since her first call and could not believe she left us so soon. I myself work in the field of immuno-oncology and have never heard of a cancer case this invasive. It was a relief that she passed with no pain and no suffering. May God bless her soul and that she rests in peace!
