It is with profound sadness that we announce Victor’s sudden passing in Portugal on March 14th at the age of 73.
Born in Sackville, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late John and Hilda (Hicks) Brooks.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Bette (Burke); sisters Brenda Toupin (Rick), Joan Allen (Frank) and Faye, as well as sisters-in-law Faye Brooks (Eric) and Betty Brooks (Alan), brothers-in-law Wallie Burke (Dianne), and Sean Burke (Melannie) and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Eric, David and Alan.
After his retirement from the Royal Bank of Canada, he and Bette wintered at their home in Florida where they were both active in Pickleball and golf. They enjoyed travelling at every opportunity. For many years Victor led the Glen Forest Badminton Club. Despite being slowed down by Parkinson’s Disease and extreme low vision, he maintained a wonderful sense of humour, never focused on what he couldn’t do but rather on what he could do. Known for his speed with his walker, he was a force to keep up with. He loved living at Applewood Landmark and especially enjoyed playing cards. He loved music, especially country. He had a sweet tooth, believing no meal was complete without dessert, whether it was cookies for breakfast, the candy in the desk next to his computer or a daily trip to Mr. & Mrs. Frosty’s gelato store in Portugal.
Thanks to the medical team at the Public Hospital and Arsenio Agencia Funeraria in Portugal for all their support and assistance. Special thanks to Gerry Roy and Judy Yamamoto and all the friends in Portugal who supported Bette.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
