In memory of

Venus Nam Shuen Chan

September 11, 1963 -  June 20, 2019

Venus Pak, Chan Nam Shuen, was born in Hong Kong on September 11th, 1963, to a family originally from Xiamen Fukien, China. She was the second child with an older sister and two younger brothers.

Being a healthy and adorable newborn, weighing more than 7 pounds, Venus was doted on by her grandmother. One of their favorite pastimes was snacking on junk food together. Venus was a disciplined and hard-working child. She was gifted academically and was particularly passionate about music. She was a natural alto who enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She was trained in Chinese folk dancing as well. Venus also mastered penmanship beautifully, both in Chinese and English. After graduating from Ling Nam College and upon completion of the Teacher’s Certificate program from the College of Education, Venus pursued a career in education as an elementary school teacher.

Venus had a placid, empathetic personality and exemplified the virtue of filial piety. She was not much of a talker, but a great listener. Her sincerity towards others earned her much love and respect. Venus was exceptionally close to her siblings.

Venus and Daniel Pak married in 1990, and immigrated to Toronto, Canada soon after. Over the years, she made her best efforts to visit her parents and family in Hong Kong as often as she could. Her love and thoughtfulness towards her family were evident in how meticulously she picked out gifts for them every time.

While in Canada, Venus had worked as an immigration consultant and several other employments over the years. Due to her outstanding work ethics and dedication, she was awarded 'Top Sales Representative' by one of the companies she worked for.

Venus was raised in a family with three generations of devout Christians. She attended Sunday Schools and Fellowships regularly since she was a child. As she grew older, Venus became passionate about serving in the church. She had served as piano accompanist during worships, youth fellowship counselor at schools and churches, as well as a member of praise teams and choirs.

During late October last year, Venus started experiencing severe spinal pain which affected the mobility of her right leg. By mid-January this year, she was diagnosed with terminal stage colon cancer. After half a year battling with cancer, on the morning of June 20th, earth’s toiling and suffering ended for Venus. She passed away peacefully and is resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
