Velta Klavins

August 2, 1927 - October 20, 2019

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2019 (age 92) at Scarborough General Hospital, with her daughter Vija by her side. Velta was born in Madliena, Latvia and came to Canada in 1951. She worked at Rust Craft cards for many years and was an active member of the Latvian Seniors Association. She loved gardening, fashion and travel. Velta was predeceased by her parents Emilis and Marta, her husband Edgars, and both of her sisters, Aina and Ilga. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Vija (Bob) and their family, as well as her family and friends in Latvia. The family thanks the caregivers at Cedarbrook Lodge for their kindness and care during the past 5 1/2 years, as well as the care givers at Scarborough General Hospital. Funeral will be held at YORK VISITATION CENTRE (160 Beecroft Rd., Toronto, 416-221-3404) on October 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., with viewing one hour before. Donations in her honour to the Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre, would be most appreciated.

Velta was a treasure and will be missed. Your... our loss is heaven’s gain. My family and I will keep our fond memories of your mom close to our hearts always. She is at peace now with Edgar, her parents, sisters and other family and friends. You were the best daughter and she cherished you so much... she will live on forever in the memories you have of her. Our deepest sympathies my dear friend... although I am far away in miles, I am right there beside you in spirit.

My husband, Bryan Austin and I (Cathy McCallum) knew Velta at Rust Craft Cards many years ago now. Our old building is now Canada Post but we knew it fondly as Rust Craft and we all worked closely, a tight knit family. Like Velta did, we live in the beautiful area of Midland Park.
Our sympathies go out to Velta's family and friends at this sad time.

Very sad to hear of Velta's passing. We remember her and Ed well from when they lived across the street from us on Dogwood Crescent. A very lovely lady. Our heartfelt condolences to Vija and the family.
