In memory of

Valerie Frances Watier

November 6, 1958 -  May 26, 2017

It is with great sadness, that the family of Valerie Watier of Pickering announces her passing on May 26, 2017, after a lengthy battle with Neurofibromatosis and Cancer. While facing many challenges over the past number of years, Val continued to share special moments with family and friends and remained active in her community always displaying her wit and humour. Valerie was honoured in 2015 by the Neurofibromatosis Society of Ontario with a certificate of appreciation for her years of service on the Board, and in 2016 by the Rotary Club of Pickering who presented her with the Carion Fenn Foundation Award for "Bravery & Courage". Both awards recognized her efforts in furthering the understanding of this underfunded disease and the challenges that are faced by those affected. She set an example of determination and positive thinking for her two sons, James and Marc, and her five grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of the Lakeridge Health unit in Durham, and Dr. Abha Gupta of Princess Margaret Hospital, for the care and comfort provided to Valerie during recent years. At Valerie's request, she will be cremated and a "Celebration of Life" will be scheduled for Family and Friends at a later date. Donations in Valerie's name can be made to the Neurofibromitosis Society https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/neurofibromatosis-society-of-ontario/
