In memory of

Umang Patel

December 22, 1977 -  June 14, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Umang has passed away. He was at home with his wife by his side when he became “The Force.” Umang is the beloved husband of Emily Cooper and incredible father to their two beautiful boys Arran and Gillon. He is adored by his parents Chanda and Girishkumar Patel. He is the cherished brother of Reena Manohar (Nitin) and doting Unci to Jai and Maiori. He will be dearly missed by his mother-in-law Carol Cooper and brother-in-law Tim Cooper (Leigh) and their children Finley and River and all his other family and friends from near and far.

Umang was born and raised in Toronto. He resides with his family in Newmarket. He studied science and optometry at the University of Waterloo (class of 2003). He practiced Optometry for many years in Keswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Umang is known as a special – thoughtful, kind generous spirit and a bright light in this world. He enjoyed photography, Star Wars, the Toronto Maple Leafs and all things related to technology. He offered tech support to almost everyone he knew. He loved surprising people and was able to surprise Emily at the airport gate with a trip to Switzerland. He was an avid traveller and was curious about the world. We believe he is now travelling in a different way.

We trust his memory will live on through his photography and in the hearts and minds of those he touched throughout his lifetime. May those that loved him find peace in that nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so very much.

My deepest sympathies and sincerest condolences to Umang's family during this difficult time.

Umang had a genuine kindness and was always thoughtful and considerate in his approach. I will never forget his determination to succeed and the fun times we had playing road hockey! The power of good will live on through his memory and may his memory be eternal.

Umang and I grew up together in Scarborough -- talking about what happened in our Accounting class or about the Leafs or Streetfighter II or about betting on sports on our walks home from school every day. He was in the bridal party at our wedding and took the best photographs. What stands out in my mind is the brightest smile, an enthusiasm for life and a deep caring for all his friends and family.

Maria and I miss you already, my friend. You have made our lives and those of countless others better, and we carry you in our hearts. Rest in peace.

I remember Umang fondly as a math student. He was very diligent, but had a good sense of humour. His intelligence was obvious, and he will be remembered as a well liked and nice young man. It was good that we were able to keep in touch via Facebook. I offer sincere sympathy to all Umang’s family members and friends, especially his wife and sons. His life was well lived, but ended too soon. May his memory be cherished by all who knew him.

My deepest and heartfelt condolences, Emily, to you and your family for your loss. Since high school, Umang has always been a kind soul and caring friend - I’m so glad to have had the privilege of knowing him and that several of us had the chance to connect with him last summer. From his conversation, I could tell how much he loved you and your boys. You and your family are in my heart and prayers.
