In memory of

Tony Tung 董天培

September 10, 1939 -  May 28, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father Tony Tien Pei Tung on May 28, 2024. Although we are incredibly sad he is no longer with us, we are comforted in knowing that he lived life to the fullest, and is now home with our heavenly Father.

Dad was an incredible man. He was a devoted civil servant for over 40 years. Even after his retirement in 2006, dad continued to consult and pursue his passion for small hydro energy projects that have taken him to many parts of the world such as Brazil, India, Europe, China and of course his beloved Taiwan. Dad was also a passionate community leader and was seen as a pillar of the Ottawa Chinese community. He served as the Honorary President of the Ottawa Chapter of the Chinese Overseas Association (COA). He co-chaired the Ottawa Chinese Event Organization Committee where he was instrumental in organizing many cultural events. He was also a board member of the Alumni Association of Universities and Colleges (AATUC) in the NCC region. He will be missed by many colleagues and friends for his passionate nature and generous spirit.

Dad was born in Chunking, China and immigrated to Canada in 1965. He was a doting husband of 56 years to Margaret Chi Mei Lee who he met and married in Ottawa in 1969. He was a devoted father to daughter Jean (Matthew) and son Henry (Elaine), and a cherished grandfather to Aidan, Mia, Gabriel, and Abigail. He will be lovingly remembered for his joyful and generous nature, his love for his family, and his love of capturing and sharing all of life’s moments in pictures and videos. As the fourth of five siblings, he is survived by his sister Louise (Sunshine). He also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. He will be missed dearly and will be forever in our hearts.

Our family would also like to extend a special thank you to family and close friends who were at his side and helping out during his final days in Taiwan. In the weeks before his passing, he was living his best life - dining with friends and family, finishing his turbine project, and even attending the Taiwan presidential inauguration.

Update from the family: Thank you for the outpouring of love and support over the past several weeks. Your kindness and generosity comforts us. For those of you unable to attend dad’s memorial service on June 14, the recording is available in the media section. Forward to the 1 hour 4 min mark to view the beginning of the service. Check back often for updates to media section for more photos and videos. Thank you!

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation in his honour to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (https://www.heartandstroke.ca) or to Compassion Canada - (https://www.compassion.ca/shop/drinking-water-purification-facilities/)
