In memory of

Tomatee "Toman" Ojah-Maharaj

April 3, 1954 -  April 11, 2017

Tomatee Ojah-Maharaj, passed away on Tuesday, April 11th, 2017 at the young stage of 63. She is resting peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Canada. Born April 3rd, 1954 Tomatee was the beloved daughter of Pundit Karoo and Sumintra Ojah- Maharaj and sister of Bissoondath (deceased), Dhanrajie (deceased), Sohan (deceased), Matee, Tara, Deodath, Jai, Shrimatee, Sursatee, Capil, Seeta Ojah-Maharaj and Balkaran & Jerry Maharaj & their loving spouses. She was the loving and devoted aunt of 30 immediate nieces & nephews and their supportive spouses and grand aunt to 30 immediate grand nieces & nephews. She was cherished by her extended family, the Soogrimsinghs, Singhs and Persads with notable care and attention from Davin & Sharmila in her final stages. Tomatee held the close relationships she had with Hasina & Mitra, Farida, Sheriffa, Shanti and many more loyal and loving friends, dear.

Tomatee attended Las Lomas #2 Government Primary School, El Socorro Hindu School and Osmond Girls High School in Trinidad. She spent much of her life in Trinidad & Tobago where she managed and operated the village central postal agency at her home in Las Lomas for over 30 years. She later went on to work as a travel agent at Funtravel Tours, Ansa Mcal Group of Companies, Republic Bank and Kaur Collections as a sales promoter. In her latter years, she migrated to Canada where she also worked as a sales promoter with InStore Focus Inc.

Tomatee is blissfully remembered for her loving and social spirit. Her simplistic lifestyle shined in her ability to converse and socialize with people through all walks of life. She was an avid reader and had a profound love for feel good music and events. Always lending an understanding and encouraging ear, with integrity, Tomatee exemplified the beauty of living in the present moment. Her positive nature, and non-judgmental jovial personality was infectious and touched all those who were blessed to have known her. Her kind presence and grace will sorely be missed.

In lieu of flowers a donation to The Trillium Foundation of Oncology will be sincerely appreciated - the link is attached below under "Make A Donation".

Aunty Tims was such a special person to our family. We always looked forward to seeing her, enjoying laughs and sharing so much wonderful memories with her growing up. She was my moms best friend and definitely a part of our family. She will be forever missed in our lives. Love you forever. May you be at peace.

The morning before she passed, I left work heading towards the St Helena junction, and nearing it my mind suddenly thought of Tomatee. It was a long time I had not pictured her in my mind's eye. But it was a vivid picture of her in her younger days when I would visit her and the family in Las Lomas. Wow, who would know that she was probably travelling home at that time. May she rest in peace, good and gentle friend.
