Tom suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of 71 on February 2 while on a long anticipated eight-week vacation to visit his sister Betty in Scotland and his son Colin in Spain. He was having the time of his life when he was taken from us very suddenly and with no warning. Tom passed with a big smile and a heart full of happiness.

Tom will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Paula (McDougall) Sloss and their two sons, Colin and Justin. Tom has a large extended family and was devoted to them all. He was especially fond of his sister Betty (Sloss) Guiney of Stevenson Scotland who was always there for him, and his brother Jim Sloss, whose wife (Joan) and sons (Jim and Steven) were a big part of Tom’s life. Tom is also survived by sisters Sandra (Sloss) Scott and Marion Sloss, and predeceased by his brother David Sloss.

Tom was a valued and adored member of Paula’s family. He was a dedicated friend and son-in-law to her parents Kath and Ron Allan. He was a pillar and best friend to sister-in-law Joanne Bell (and the late Jim Bell) and their children Branden (28), Jayna (21) and Robyn (17); and sister-in-law Ronda Allan and her children Jade (16) and Onyx (13). He was a beloved brother-in-law to Jamie and Kelly Allan and their sons Eric (19) and Evan (17). He will be greatly missed by brother-in-laws Alistair McDougall, Terry Allan, and Tom Allan; and sisters-in-law Jessica McDougall, Debra Matthews, and Wendy Samson and their families. There are too many precious cousins to name however a special mention to Craig McClure for his exceptional support.

Tom was born and raised in Saltcoats, Scotland and immigrated to Toronto Canada in 1967. He married Paula McDougall on April 11, 1981 and they had two children – Colin Andrew Sloss born on June 17, 1983 and Thomas Justin Sloss born on August 12, 1984. Tom was an immensely proud father and loved his wife Paula and his sons with all of his being.

Tom’s talent for making others laugh and smile was renowned. He was kind, generous, caring and compassionate. He was a bright light in the lives of so many people. Tom’s smile and infectious laugher will be missed every day by countless family and friends.

As many of you know, Tom’s compassion for others extended well beyond family and friends. He could never pass a homeless person without saying hello and reaching into his pocket.
