It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Athanasios (Tom) Rappos, who left us unexpectedly on Thursday, December 26th, 2024 at the age of 74. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, friend, and cherished member of the Rappos family.
Tom Rappos was born on April 19th, 1950 in Vevi, Florina, Greece, one of five children of Aspasia and Nick Rappos.He arrived in Canada in 1967, journeying on a boat that docked in Halifax. Shortly after, he began a new chapter in his life as a husband and father, settling in Toronto. Despite having limited formal education, he possessed an unwavering determination and worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Through his relentless effort, he ensured that his family never lacked the things that truly mattered. He went on to open a restaurant with family members, dedicating countless hours and hard work to make it a success. When that chapter of his life came to a close, he continued to work long hours as a cook, never losing his commitment to his craft. His work and dedication were a testament to his incredible work ethic and his desire to provide for his family.
A devoted father and husband and a pillar of strength, selflessness, empathy and compassion, Tom had an unwavering love for his family. He dedicated his life to raising his four children, three sons, each with disabilities and his daughter, while later becoming a caregiver to his beloved wife, showing patience and resilience. He was an amazing father and devoted grandfather ("Pappou") to his two grandchildren. There was no greater joy for him than spending time with and being surrounded by his grandchildren, who always made him smile. His legacy is built not only on his accomplishments but also on the warmth and love he shared with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Whether telling stories, sharing laughter with friends and family, making a quick drop-in visit, or offering words of wisdom, his presence was a constant source of comfort.
Another great joy for Tom was his garden. He spent countless hours preparing and caring for his plants, including peppers, tomatoes, and beans. He often "volunteered" family members to help dig and plant rows of seeds, all while supervising and offering instructions if things weren't done just right. Once the harvest was ready, he would eagerly share his abundance with family, neighbours, and friends.
He is survived by his daughter Vasiliki (William), son Nick, grandchildren Alexander and Marianna, siblings Helen (Christo), Steve (Frances), Mary (Joe) and Mike (Beverly), as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and many others whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Maria, children Demetrios and Petros and his parents.
Tom will always be remembered by his hard work ethic, devoted dedication to his family, his generosity and desire to help all those around him, his kindness and sarcasm. We will forever carry his memory in our hearts. His kindness, love and tenacity will continue to inspire and guide us as we move forward. We are forever grateful for the father he was and for the love he gave us, a love that will never fade.

We love you Baba and Pappou. Your love will never be forgotten. I hope you find comfort in being reunited with Mommy, Petro Jimmy and everyone else we have lost and loved. Rest in peace.
