In memory of

Tom Koon Yan Leung

March 31, 1966 -  April 20, 2017

On April 20th, 2017, Tom passed away, suddenly. He leaves us as a father, co-worker, coach, son, and brother, and he will be greatly missed by those who knew him. Outgoing and personable, he touched the lives of anyone he met.
Born in Hong Kong to Sui Fun and Hang Yok Leung, his family moved to Canada at age seven, and soon made Toronto home. At York Memorial High School, he was a key part of the football team, serving on the defensive side as a line-backer. Tom then went on to study Business Administration at Laurier University, where he made many lifelong friends and memories, including owning his first dog, Pepler.
After completing university, Tom returned to Hong Kong to find work whereby his father commented, ‘he left with little else other than his degree and returned with a career, wife, son, and full set of furniture’.
Tom was a great lover of sports, and encouraged his children to participate in baseball, soccer, football, rugby, horseback riding, and particularly hockey. He encouraged all of his children to learn to play hockey, succeeding in helping get William, his youngest, on to the double–A level. Tom also took immense satisfaction in coaching wherever he could, and did his best to be a part of his children’s lives where possible.
Tom was also an ardent music enthusiast. He loved dancing to the classics on vinyl on a sound system he painstakingly designed and set up himself.
Tom is survived by three children: Alexander, Natasha, and William; his mother Hang Yok; three siblings Allen, Man, and Mary; and his dog Pax.

To Tom's family I wish to extend my condolences on your loss.

I recently became reacquainted with Tom through Facebook. I still have very strong memories of our teen years. I always admired him for standing out and accomplishing so much during a time when diversity was not as common as it is now. I wish I had told him that. The Tom I remember very much improved the world by heavily participating in it. May he R.I.P.
