Surrounded by his loving family, Thomas Mark passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the age of 87.
Thomas was born August 15, 1937 in Toishan Kwangtung China and immigrated to Canada in 1950 at the age of 13 with his younger brother Wayne. They joined their father, Yu-Bick Mark, who was already in Canada. Thomas worked various jobs to support his younger brother and himself. He worked in a laundromat, drove a taxi and had a partnership in a restaurant. In 1966 Thomas married May Mei Mark in Hong Kong.
Thomas and May opened Mark '1' Cleaners in 1967 and ran this successful business until their retirement in 2003. Thomas and May lovingly raised 4 children, Cynthia, Robert, Dennis and Steven. Thomas's mother-in-law would take care of the children while Thomas and May worked tirelessly to provide a beautiful life for everyone. The family would go for picnics, discover parks in Toronto, enjoy the backyard skating rink made by Thomas, spend time in the Kawarthas, and cram into their station wagon to go exploring.
Upon retirement, Thomas travelled the world with the love of his life and vacationed with his children, grandchildren and dear friends. He split his time in Toronto and the family cottage at Curve Lake, Ontario. He treasured his friends, hosting endless game nights of playing Mahjong until the wee hours of the morning. He enjoyed fishing, boating, going for long walks, tending to his vegetable garden, cooking up amazing meals, hosting friends and relatives in Markham and Curve Lake. What gave him the most joy was watching his grandchildren playing and growing up.
Thomas is predeceased by his wife May Mei Mark (2004), son Dennis (2000), father Yu-Bick Mark (1952), mother Kiu Tai Ng (1953), brother Chun Wing Mak (2008), and mother-in-law Oi Ngor Ng (2019). Thomas is the beloved father to Cynthia (Steven), Robert (Mary) and Steven (Erica). Devoted grandfather to Odin, Kyle, Xavier, Gavin, Julian, Nathan and Emily. He is survived by his brother Wayne (Karming) and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was a pillar of strength, support and unconditional love for us all, he will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts. We would like to offer a special thank you to the medical teams at Southlake Hospital Cardiac ICU and Markham Stouffville Hospital ICU. We are forever grateful for your efforts and commitment to Thomas's care. The family will receive friends at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 375 Mount Pleasant Road on May 17, 2025.
