In memory of

Theresa Molenhuis nee Dryfhout

August 19, 1927 -  September 22, 2024

Jesus welcomed Theresa home in the beginning of her 98th year of life. What a life she lived!!!

Beloved wife to the late Louis Molenhuis. Loving mother to Jim (Coby) Molenhuis, Sid (Theresa, deceased) Molenhuis, Liz (Joe) Busuttil and Louis (Debbie) Molenhuis. Predeceased by her children Al Molenhuis and Margaret Molenhuis. Cherished Oma to 24 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Theresa was born in Eisinga, North Holland, the eldest of 11 children. Growing up in such a large household was difficult! Expectations were that she would help carry the load of raising 10 siblings. Taken out of school after grade 8 was heartbreaking for her. She loved school and loved to learn.

Meeting the love of her life, Louis Molenhuis at a church youth group would set the course of their future together. Most of the Dryfhout family immigrated to Canada in 1952. Louis would follow shortly after. They were married on January 2, 1953, and were blessed with 69 years together.

Six children were born in quick succession. The family settled in Brampton. Times were tough for this big family, money was tight. But homecooked generous meals were provided every day. To supplement the family income, Theresa cleaned houses, then drove a school bus for many years, continuing to clean houses in between bus runs. Eventually she worked at a deli in downtown Brampton. She loved the work and especially enjoyed the social interaction.

Theresa was the epitome of “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”. Her hands were never idle. She was a prolific knitter. She was proud that her knitted baby blankets sold quickly. All profits going to HCH. If her hands weren’t busy, her mind was. She loved to play scrabble, do jigsaw puzzles, word searches and read. She volunteered for many, many decades. Co-leading the catering team for John Knox Christian School. Volunteering in so many capacities at Holland Christian Homes into her 93rd year. She always volunteered with joy and compassion.

Those who knew or met Theresa were touched by her generous, kind and joyful spirit. She was a beloved member of the Holland Christian Homes community for over 32 years.

Theresa’s legacy will be her unwavering faith. She was a prayer warrior! She led devotions and bible studies for many many years. Her faith brought her much joy and also carried her through many tough times!

Theresa is now living out her favourite verse for all eternity, Psalm 27:4 “One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.”

She will be dearly missed!!

Special thanks to the staff in Grace Manor who took such great care of Theresa. Showing compassion, love and support.

A private visitation and interment will be held on Friday morning, September 27th. Celebration of Life service will follow at Heritage Fellowship CRC (7900 McLaughlin Rd S, Brampton, ON L6Y 5A7) at 2 pm. After the service there will be a reception in Horizon Hall.

Sending our heartfelt condolences on the passing of your Mom/Oma. Comfort, strength, and peace as you say your earthly goodbyes!
What a wonderful tribute to your Mom/Oma, and such a beautiful example /legacy she left you all!
I remember visiting her in their apartment and her giving me a knitting pattern for a baby blanket she had made, and had taught my Mom to make…I was able to finish it and it was finally given as a gift to our grandson.
Also your Mom being such a friend to my Mom, especially through their connections in the prayer group…your Mom and Dad would set up and prepare the coffee for their weekly times together…my Mom would often go there early to “visit” with your Mom😍!
