Teresa Kam Cheung Hui (née Chan), 77, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, at Sunnybrook Hospital's palliative care unit. She will be remembered for her generous heart, devotion to family, love of teaching, and ability to plan the perfect globe-traversing adventure. She is survived by her son Glenn, as well as her siblings Alice (Michael), Yiu Fai (Stella), and Katherine (Raymond), along with her beloved nephews and nieces. Teresa was predeceased by her husband David, father Ki Yick Chan, mother Pui Fong Lau, and brother Albert.
Born on October 24, 1947, in Hong Kong, Teresa spent her early years in a rapidly growing household with four siblings. With her twin sister and constant companion Alice, she attended the prestigious St. Paul's Convent School, where they were known as trendsetting twins with impeccable fashion sense. Teresa was an outstanding student and worked hard while also playing hard, forming many lifelong friendships.
Pursuing her dream to be an educator, she attended the University of Hong Kong. There she met David Hui, a handsome young man who played in their church's worship band. She worked as a teacher in Hong Kong for two years before pursuing a master’s degree in education from the University of Calgary, during which time Teresa and David maintained a long-distance relationship. In 1974 they married and she joined him in Toronto, where their years together were full of friends, career success, and travel, culminating in the birth of their son Glenn in 1981.
Teresa applied her degree to Glenn's early education, using the same passion for learning and discipline that left an indelible mark on her students over a 32-year career with the Toronto Catholic District School Board. After retirement, she continued to tutor a select group of students, taking joy in watching them flourish.
In her later years, she also turned to a passion for travel, visiting over 50 countries and continuing to live life with curiosity and adventure. After David’s passing in 2022, Teresa found comfort in her family and the communities she built over the years. Her quiet strength, forgiving nature, and natural grace will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
