In memory of

Ted Gerald Luszczek

April 18, 1951 -  June 18, 2022

Ted Gerald Luszczek passed away suddenly at home on June 28, 2022 at the age of 71. He is predeceased by his son Peter. Ted will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Tanya Abolins, of 49 years; and, he will be missed by his two brothers, Joseph and Casimir, and their families.

Ted was raised in the High Park area of Toronto and took to finding challenges and fun in his life beginning with bicycle racing as a teen, then car racing later. He always enjoyed learning and experiencing new things and his many hobbies and experiences included playing the guitar, sailing the western half of Lake Ontario, hiking the Grand Canyon and a mountain in Washington State, fishing, water colour painting, golfing, photography, cooking, bread baking and learning computer languages. He even joined a baseball team with coworkers and tried camping. Always interested in learning, Ted had an extraordinary memory and was never short of something to say no matter what the topic.

Ted was a private person and did not share much about himself with others but he did share and enjoy is time with family and friends. Often a host, together with his wife, many parties were held in his younger days with friends; and, in later years, as friends grew further apart, family gatherings became more important.

Ted spent over 40 years in the automotive industry working as Resident Engineer to Corporate Quality Manager for various companies including Fiat, American Motors, AMC/Jeep/Renault, Chrysler and ABC Group. His job took him to Germany, Spain, Mexico, many states of the US, especially in the southwest, and of course regular visits to Detroit. When a position was no longer challenging, he would move on within the company or move to another company. Ted always wanted to be challenged or life would not be fun and rewarding.

Ted was a wonderful provider for his family. He was an understanding and caring partner to his wife and a mentoring father to his son. He enjoyed teaching his son his knowledge about cars and repairs and never missed a hockey game Peter played in. He enjoyed time spent together as a family on the golf course or quietly sitting in a boat hoping to catch that big fish. Ted shared his love of new experiences with his family; and, holidays, week-ends or day trips were always to new places to discover, learn and have fun.

A service will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at York Funeral Centre, 160 Beecroft Road, Toronto, Ontario M2N 5Z5. Visitation will be 9-10 am with a service to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Scleroderma Canada or The Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Tanya, I am so sorry to hear about Ted, my heart goes out to you. Meeting up with you and Ted at our AGMs and at the boat shows, though for only short interactions, I really liked him. Funny, interesting and engaged with our conversations, wish we had gotten together for longer times. Big hug.

It saddens my heart to hear of Ted’s passing. Instead of tears I choose to celebrate Ted’s life with 49 years of wonderful memories in his love of family. Family get togethers were always special. I can still smell and taste the bread he baked, BBQ spreads that were simple but nurtured the family bond and I will miss listening to his recounting of his life adventures. Life will not be the same without his caring and thoughtfulness especially when it came to his only son and Tanya, his wife, who was by his side till he went to meet his maker. Godspeed Ted. You will always hold a special place in my heart.
