Chi Man Larry Tam
June 1, 1967 - May 6, 2023
It is with profound sadness that the family of Chi Man Larry Tam announces his sudden passing on Saturday May 6, 2023 at the age of 55.
Beloved son to his father Bun and mother Bik Chun. Cherished brother of sisters Karina, Grace and twin Susan. Much loved uncle of niece Katherine and nephew Daniel.
Larry was born alongside his twin sister Susan at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Hong Kong. He was 2 years old when he immigrated to Canada with his family. He spent an idyllic childhood growing up in Chinatown/Kensington market running around a neighbourhood filled with laughter and endless games of street hockey. He attended Central Tech and Harbord Collegiate for middle school. It was here that Larry discovered his passion for photography when he joined the year book club as Photo Editor. And so began his collection of cameras - his first being a Canon. Influenced by Ansel Adams, Larry built an extensive collection of photographs finding beauty in architecture, breathtaking vistas - artfully composed and of course, people.
Larry discovered cycling at an early age, it became his ultimate passion and favourite pastime. His face always lit up talking about his rides with the Dark Horse Flyers Cycling Club, culminating in an Instagram post/story oftentimes featuring the peloton and always set to a beautiful piece of music. He eagerly geared up to ride his beloved Cervelo as the season opened and rode until the snow laden streets signalled the end of it for another year.
A self proclaimed foodie, Larry enjoyed a well prepared and thought out meal with impeccable ingredients. He revelled in good conversation with his network of friends and was adored by many for his kindness, wickedly funny sense of humour, and generosity (of his time). A great conversationalist, he could tell you everything about anything and was filled with factoids.
Another favourite pastime was his extensively planned out walks throughout (mostly) Toronto. Knowledgeable about abandoned historical buildings and the gentrification of various neighbourhoods, Larry often reminisced about the beautiful architecture of 'old Toronto'.
He pursued a BA degree in Political Science at The University of Toronto.
Larry is immensely missed by his loving family. He will be remembered for his charisma, kindness, generosity, sense of humour and ability to light up the energy in a room.
Until we meet again. We will love you endlessly.
