Peacefully after a brief illness on Monday July 14th at Brampton Civic Hospital. Sylveer, beloved husband of Yola. Loving father of Mark(Martha) and the late Brigitte. Dear brother of Rolanda and the late Etienne (Georgette) and brother in law of Ghisleen (Georgette); beloved Uncle Sylveer to Inga Martens, and Pepe (Grandfather) to Zachary and Sean Bouckaert. He will be greatly missed by many, many friends from a lifetime of good humour, kind action and passionate support for all the very best of humanity.

Sylveer and Yola met in Merendree, and married in Lovendegem in East Flanders, Belgium. Five days after their wedding, they emigrated to Canada. Like so many young people from that part of the world, they settled in tobacco country, Langton, ON, working hard and attending school in Tillsonburg, ON.

After a couple of years, Sylveer enrolled with George Brown College for welding training and they moved to Toronto. His career in welding lasted for over 30 years. He worked with Fruehauf Trailers for 23 years, where he was a supervisor and then promoted to inspector. Then, working for ORION Bus, he hired and trained welders. Well into retirement he worked as an inspector, trainer and consultant in the transportation industry.

Sylveer loved travel, and Cuba was his favourite destination. Costa Rica was also a favourite. He loved working in his garden, and his pond of fish. He was quite a good cook, and made excellent soup. He loved reading and learning more about World War 2; as a boy, he had experienced wartime Belgium. He delighted in building model airplanes, especially craft flown in WW2 battles. Of course, he also made a Fokker Dr.I Dreidecker (Red Baron's plane) and other WW1 planes. He had a great deal of respect for those pilots, flying in the rickety craft of the early 1900s.

Sylveer loved good beer, and shared his passion for micro brews, European and especially Belgian beer with everyone. He was a very kind and generous man, and he will be missed by everyone who knew him, but most keenly by his family.
