Stew Luke
August 28, 1951 - July 16, 2013
Stewart Thomas Luke (St. Luke) passed away at the Toronto General Hospital on Tuesday, July 16th at 912 pm after an acute but brief illness.
Stew will be greatly missed by his wife, Kathy and his children Scott (Jenn), Stephanie (Todd), and Daniel (Jenna), and his grandchildren, Carissa and her son Jace, Kenzie, Taylor, and Spencer Luke, Avery and Elyse Cox, and Grace and Charlie Luke. Millie McBride, his mother-in-law and traveling companion for vacations and Kathy's conferences misses him terribly.
Stew is also missed by his loving family members: Bernice (Denny) and Jan (Ken) (sisters), Herb (Anna) (brother), Jim (Kathy), Bill (Cheryl), Michael (Cheryl) (brother-in-laws), Janet and Karen (sister-in-laws), and his many nieces and nephews.
Stew was very active in sports growing up and played for the Marlies and the Petes. He was active in the community coaching soccer, football and hockey. He coached for Brampton Minor Football and was one of the building members who built the rep teams and developed the house league teams ensuring that any boy or girl who wanted to play football could.
He received the Brampton Minor Football's Builder's award in 2001, the City of Brampton's Long-Term Service award in 2002, and was inducted into the Brampton Minor Football Hall of Fame in 2012.
Stew was a family man and he loved his family dearly. He attended as many of his grandchildren's games as he could, be they near or far.
Stew could often be found watching his sons and their friends on the Brampton Mets Baseball team play on weekends and weeknights, often enjoying a cold one, conversation and laughter after the game.
His children, grandchildren and great-grandson and I want to celebrate this very special man's life. He was a terrific husband, wonderful father, grandfather, and my best friend and soul mate who I am going to miss more than words can ever say....Kathy
Memories
Stew's family would love it if you would share your stories and memories of Stew either at the funeral or in the Guestbook / Life Stories on this website.
Flowers / Donations
Should you wish to make a donation in Stew's name and in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to either the Leukemia Society, Jump Start or the Brampton Civic Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or the Toronto General Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit...we are very grateful for how hard they tried to save our beloved Stew but alas, were unable to.
Funeral / Celebration of Stew's Life
For the funeral and celebration of Stew's life, please dress casual (includes appropriate shorts) and in colour...only wear black if that is the colour that you normally wear, as Stew does not plan to leave this mortal earth in the traditional sense but in his own unique style (remember the neon shorts!).
