Steven Harvey Bubis passed away on May 3rd 2026 in Richmond Hill, Ontario. He was born on December 14th, 1951 in Toronto, Ontario to Thelma & Robert Bubis (both deceased).
Steven and former spouse, Theresa Bubis, had 3 daughters together. He is survived by his children Judy Bubis, Stephanie Pichler (Jason Pichler) & Madeline Bubis; grandchildren Abigail & Leah Pichler, and Nina Bubis-Mrsic. Steven went on to marry Claudia Gomez and was Stepfather to Daniela Marrese (Andrew Marrese) & Valerie Do Couto (Matthew Do Couto); grandchildren Liliana Marrese & Evelyn Do Couto. He is also mourned by his sister Elaine Stein (Victor Stein), and nieces Rosemary Waxman (Aaron Waxman), Melanie Schorr (James Babulal) & Tara Schorr (Joshua Clements).
Steven grew up in the Bathurst & Wilson area of Toronto, at which time he met his best friend Philip Whitworth. After graduating high school at Sir Sanford Fleming S.S., Steven went on to complete his B.A. in Phys Ed. at the newly formed York University. His career had him move into the heating/cooling energy sector where he had various roles in upper management at Esso and McDougall Energy. He retired in 2022 whereupon he turned his focus to cooking, golf, walking his dog and pickleball.
Travel was one of his many passions throughout his life. His various travels included Australia, where he hiked Uluru (Ayer’s Rock), South America, where he witnessed Halley’s Comet and most recently to Egypt where he fulfilled his lifelong dream of seeing the Pyramids and King Tut’s Tomb.
Steven was a sports enthusiast who took his passion for cycling and became certified as a spinning instructor, where he thrived at various fitness centres. He excelled in all sports (except winter ones!) and loved to support his local Toronto sports teams like the Blue Jays, Raptors and Maple Leafs.
Steven had a lifelong love of music, starting with his first Beatles album. He was always happy to share a song and a laugh. Steven enjoyed pop culture, specifically Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and Indiana Jones. Steven had a love of good food with his favourite restaurant being United Bakers which serves the ultimate split pea soup. Despite being a fitness guru, he was always up for a sweet treat to end the meal.
Steven was much beloved by his family and community. His positive energy was contagious and brought immense happiness to those around him, whether they be strangers, friends or family. His loss will be felt for years to come and we will miss him always. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
