In memory of

Soi Keng Lau

October 22, 1929 -  September 30, 2023

Soi Keng (nee Lam) Lau 林瑞琼 was born on October 22nd, 1929, in Canton, China. She was a beloved Mother to 5 children, Grandmother to 12 and Great Grandmother to 6.

Throughout her incredible 94 years of life, she lived through war during her early childhood, poverty during her early adulthood and starvation during motherhood. To give her children a better future, she applied 18 times to try to leave China. We finally got approved and immigrated to Macau. However, she did not stop there. Her continual determination finally landed our family in Canada in 1965. Life did not get easier as new immigrants settling in Toronto. Mom had to work over 10 hours a day, 6 days a week to provide for our family. After countless years of sacrifice, she was finally able to retire in her late sixties. She took this newfound freedom and travelled back home to spend time with family and friends.

Unfortunately, those good times did not last long. She started to show signs of dementia. We decided to go on one last cruise with her to celebrate her birthday. To this date we cherish some of the most unforgettable memories. Shortly after we got back, we decided to admit her to Heritage Nursing Home as she was no longer able to take care of herself. The staff at Heritage Nursing Home provided her with a secure and safe place to spend her final years. The Doctors, nurses, health caregivers, staffs, and volunteers helped to ensure that her final days were painless and comfortable. Thank you to everyone at Heritage for your help.

Mom held on for as long as she could but unfortunately passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday September 30th, 2023.

She will be greatly missed but her memory will live on in us all forever.

On behalf of the family, thank you all for your support at this difficult time.

To Herb and family,
We are so sad and sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. Throughout those early years she always greeted me with such kindness. Welcoming me in your home and allowing me to hang out with you until some ungodly hour of the night. She would come down to your room and tell me that it was time to go home and that my mom would worry !! LOL .. truly something only a loving and caring mother would say and do. Know that your mom is resting in peace now and she'll be watching over the entire family as she always did. My sincerest condolences and sympathies to your entire family. May the everlasting memories and undying love of your mother bring comfort to you all.
